ABOUT PIRTH.ORG

Pirth.org is a global technology nonprofit on a mission to help people stay safe — online and offline — all around the world, while advancing evidence-based solutions for online safety. Whether someone is facing cyberbullying, doxing, image-based abuse, harassment, impersonation, or violent threats, Pirth.org meets them where they are and helps them take action. Users submit a secure, guided report and receive a personalized Action Plan — with curated resources, referrals, and recommendations — within 30 seconds, curated to their profile, location, and situation.

As a Trusted Partner with 50+ social media platforms and tech companies, including all the large ones and a growing list of emerging platforms, Pirth.org advocates on behalf of users with the world’s largest social media platforms. With users in 65+ countries across six continents, Pirth.org serves journalists, activists, elected officials, women, youth, and other high-risk communities navigating tech-facilitated harm. The anonymized data from user reports also drives evidence-based advocacy for safer policies and platforms globally.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Pirth.org is seeking a dedicated and mission-aligned Digital Safety Manager to join our growing team as an independent contractor. This is a critical role that sits at the heart of our user-facing operations: you will be the connective tissue between the people who come to Pirth.org in moments of vulnerability and the resources, platforms, and support systems that can help protect them.

Reporting to the Head of Online Experience & Safety, you will oversee the report escalations process, manage the day-to-day user experience on our platform, and continuously expand and refine the resources available to our global user base. You will bring both operational rigor and deep human empathy to a role that directly serves at-risk individuals and survivors of online violence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report Escalations Management

  • Oversee and manage the end-to-end report escalations process, ensuring user-submitted reports are triaged, reviewed, and acted upon in a timely and trauma-informed manner.

  • Serve as a key point of coordination for escalations to Pirth.org’s Trusted Flagger relationships with 50+ social media platforms and tech companies.

  • Develop and refine escalation workflows, protocols, and documentation to ensure consistency, quality, and appropriate urgency across all case types.

  • Monitor the status of escalated cases and communicate updates to users in a clear, supportive, and timely way.

  • Identify patterns in escalated reports and surface insights to the Head of Online Experience & Safety to inform platform improvements and advocacy priorities.

  • User

Experience

  • Management

  • Serve as a primary steward of the user journey on the Pirth.org platform, ensuring every touchpoint reflects our trauma-informed, survivor-centered design principles.

  • Monitor user feedback, support inquiries, and platform interactions to identify friction points, gaps, and opportunities to improve the user experience.

  • Collaborate with the broader team to implement UX improvements that increase the accessibility, clarity, and effectiveness of the platform for a global, multilingual user base.

  • Ensure that all user-facing communications and interactions reflect Pirth.org’s values of trust, empathy, and safety.

  • Resource Research & Curation

  • Continuously research, evaluate, and add to Pirth.org’s Global and Local Resource Library, ensuring coverage spans digital security, legal aid, mental health, emergency funding, helplines, and shelter resources across geographies.

  • Assess the quality, accessibility, and relevance of resources for Pirth.org’s diverse user populations, including women, journalists, activists, elected officials, and youth.

  • Build and maintain relationships with resource providers, support organizations, and civil society partners to identify new referral pathways and collaboration opportunities.

  • Keep resource listings up to date, verifying accuracy and availability on an ongoing basis.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Operations

  • Work closely with the Head of Online Experience & Safety on operational planning, team coordination, and strategic priorities.

  • Contribute to the development and documentation of internal policies, procedures, and best practices related to digital safety and user support.

  • Participate in team meetings, case reviews, and periodic reporting on key metrics related to user experience and escalations.

  • Support additional projects and initiatives as Pirth.org’s programs evolve, with flexibility to take on emerging needs in a fast-moving organizational environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required

  • Demonstrated experience in trust & safety, digital security, user support, or a closely related field.

  • Deep familiarity with the landscape of online abuse, including cyberbullying, harassment, doxxing, image-based abuse, violent threats, and tech-facilitated gender-based violence.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases, projects, and priorities simultaneously with precision and care.

  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to engage users and partners in a professional, empathetic, and culturally-sensitive manner.

  • Comfort working independently as a contractor in a remote, fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

  • High degree of emotional intelligence and the resilience to engage with sensitive, distressing content on a regular basis.

  • Preferred

  • Prior experience working with a trust & safety team at a technology platform, nonprofit, or advocacy organization.

  • Familiarity with the Trusted Flagger or Priority Flagger programs at major social media platforms (Google, Meta, TikTok, X, etc).

  • Experience with resource mapping, case management systems, or CRM tools.

  • Knowledge of relevant legal frameworks, policies, or advocacy efforts related to online safety, data privacy, or tech-facilitated violence.

  • Multilingual capabilities or experience supporting a global, multicultural user base.

  • Background in trauma-informed practice, survivor support, or crisis response.

  • WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

  • Online abuse is not an abstract issue — it is a lived, daily reality for millions of people around the world, and it disproportionately impacts academics, civil society leaders, elected officials, journalists, public figures, women, youth, and marginalized communities. When someone comes to Pirth.org, they are often scared, stressed, overwhelmed, and unsure of what to do. The Digital Safety Manager plays a direct role in changing that experience: ensuring that users feel heard, supported, and equipped to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

  • This is a rare opportunity to do meaningful work at the intersection of technology, human rights, systems change, and survivor support — at an organization that is setting a new standard for what online safety looks like.
