The Digital Innovation Engineer contributes to Buckman’s digital strategy by collaborating with the digital team, stakeholders, and external partners on initiatives and successfully completing work on regional and global projects.
Responsibilities

Lead and contribute to the completion of complex global digital projects that positively impact the customer experience and increase adoption of digital solutions.

Serve as a technical leader (software and/or hardware) on at least one digital project, ensuring technical problems and challenges are resolved.

Manage and complete work across the full product development lifecycle, including idea generation, rapid prototyping to develop MVPs, product development, and commercial deployment.

Conduct analyses and create key documentation (e.g., project and resource plans) to support and advance the project through phase gate processes.

Collaborate with external partners and review SOW technical documentation to ensure clarity and completeness.

Deliver outcomes in one or more focus areas such as sensor development, automation and controls, back end development, front end development, IoT development, data engineering, data analytics, mobile development, or data science.

Collaborate effectively with the global digital team, R&D partners, Strategic Marketing, and sales to deliver effective digital solutions and ensure alignment with digital direction and Buckman 4.0 strategy.

Understand the global digital ecosystem and work productively across this ecosystem to align with stakeholders and internal partners.

Optional note for Digital Insights Lab Associates (where relevant): monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve sales associate issues related to the Ackumen platform, monitor alarms for customer chemical usage, and triage service requests to appropriate support tiers.
Requirements

Education and experience: a B.S. or equivalent in Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field plus 3 years of experience; or an M.S. (or equivalent) in the same fields plus 1 year of experience. Demonstrates understanding of core concepts in one or more focus areas (e.g., sensor development, automation and controls, back end, front end, native application development, data science) with some real-world application, and in-depth knowledge in at least one focus area.

Knowledge: for software roles, strong knowledge of full software development processes and lifecycle, with in-depth knowledge in at least one focus area such as mobile development, front end development, IoT development, back end development, data engineering, or data analytics. For IoT roles, in-depth knowledge in sensor design, controllers/gateways, systems design, control logic, data analytics tools, embedded programming, and IoT stack components (Azure or AWS environments).

Skills: proficient in the scientific method for design and analysis of experiments; advanced MS Office and data analysis skills; strong written and verbal communication; ability to work in cross-functional global teams; strong mathematical skills and data-driven decision making; ability to read and interpret technical documents; strong presentation skills.
