About this role

About the Role Astra seeks an experienced Development Test Engineer to own and operate development test stands for propulsion and fluid systems, from concept through first ignition. You will design, build, and operate hardware end-to-end, including P&ID development, component selection, tube routing, wiring harnesses, DAQ configuration, and on-stand checkout. You’ll own the test program from scratch to final report. ITAR/EAR compliance applies; ability to be a documented U.S. Person or obtain necessary licenses is required. Accommodation for applicants with disabilities is available during the application process. What You'll Do

  • Design and build test infrastructure for propulsion, fluids, and mechanical systems, including pressurization circuits, propellant loading and drain systems, flow stands, and proof/leak test rigs.
  • Develop and own P&IDs from scratch; select valves, pressure transducers, flow meters, relief devices, and structural hardware.
  • Fabricate, fit, and assemble fluid system hardware; configure DAQ and wiring harnesses; commission test stands from cold iron to ignition.
  • Troubleshoot and repair under pressure during active test campaigns; write, review, and execute hazardous operation test procedures (cryogenics, high-pressure gas, flammable propellants).
  • Support test operations as console operator, test conductor, or stand crew; own final test reports and post-test analysis. What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in test engineering, propulsion, or aerospace GSE.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a test stand from blank paper to operating hardware.
  • Direct experience with high-pressure fluid systems, cryogenics, or propellant handling.
  • Comfortable working in a hazardous operations environment and holding others to procedural rigor.
  • Proficient with DAQ hardware (NI, Beckhoff, or equivalent) and comfortable writing basic sequences or scripts for data acquisition.
  • Tube fabrication and fitting experience is a plus.
  • Able to read and mark up mechanical drawings.
  • Take ownership of work from first sketch to final test report. Nice to Have
  • Experience with P&ID development and instrument selection.
  • Additional hands-on fabrication or mechanical assembly experience. Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary: $140,000 - $180,000 per year USD.
  • Equity as part of the package; health, vision, dental, and 401K.
  • Company-provided lunch; snacks and beverages.
  • Disability accommodations for applicants; ITAR/EAR compliance notice included.
