Job title: Deterministic Safety Analysis Engineer
About the Role This Deterministic Safety Analysis (DSA) Engineer position supports the BWRX-300 DSA team, applying thermal-hydraulic and safety analysis methods to licensing and licensing-support analyses. The role offers collaboration with a high-performing engineering team, opportunities to automate methods, and direct customer-facing activities through training, deliverables, and collaboration.
What You'll Do
- Quickly learn and apply analytical methods, procedures, and techniques to solve problems.
- Lead projects including technical evaluations and analyses in Anticipated Operational Occurrences, Anticipated Transients without Scram, Reactor Heat Balance, and Thermal Hydraulic Fuel Channel Analyses.
- Perform plant thermal hydraulic evaluations in areas such as Containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
- Conduct BWR stability analyses and related thermal-hydraulic evaluations.
- Prepare thorough technical reports, correspondence, calculations; communicate complex issues to internal and external customers and recommend solutions.
- Ensure high-quality work in accordance with regulatory rules, customer requirements, and QA standards.
What We're Looking For
- B.S. degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or similar) or a Master's degree with at least 2 years of relevant nuclear experience.
- Eligibility to access export-controlled information; final offers contingent on U.S. Government authorization for access where applicable.
- Preferred location is GEH Headquarters, Wilmington, NC, with Atlanta, GA also considered.
- Strong understanding of nuclear engineering fundamentals, especially related to BWR systems and thermal hydraulics.
- Experience with two-phase thermal hydraulics, Best Estimate and CSAU applications.
- Programming experience in C#, FORTRAN, or Python.
- Excellent communication and technical-report writing skills; able to present to internal/external customers.
- Honest, takes ownership, and is motivated to deliver high-quality results.
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in engineering.
- Experience with BWR core simulation and thermal-hydraulic systems codes.
- Background in power plant or process plant thermal hydraulics and integrated plant response.
- Knowledge of BWR systems, two-phase flow techniques, and CSAU methodologies.
- Additional programming experience (C#, FORTRAN, Python).
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $79,400.00 – $137,000.00 per year (USD).
