About the Role
The Chelan County Sheriff's Office seeks an entry-level deputy to perform law enforcement, crime investigation, and crime prevention duties with a focus on protecting life and property. Deputies operate independently within policy and established precedents and may be assigned to patrol, investigations, training, or officer-in-charge duties when a sergeant is absent.
What You'll Do
- Patrol the county by car, bicycle, or on foot to deter and respond to crime and traffic violations.
- Respond to calls for service and provide first aid or crisis intervention as needed.
- Conduct investigations, gather and preserve evidence, interview witnesses, suspects, and victims; handle cases from preliminary investigation to resolution.
- Take suspects into custody when probable cause exists; manage jail intake procedures and transfers with a focus on safety.
- Prepare clear, accurate, timely written reports; follow verbal and written instructions; communicate effectively with the public and Sheriff’s office staff.
- Engage in neighborhood oriented policing, crime prevention programs, and public service activities; interact professionally with communities.
- Accept special assignments such as major investigations, training, or acting officer-in-charge in the absence of a Sergeant.
What We're Looking For
- Graduation from standard high school or GED; must be 21 years of age at hire.
- College degree preferred, but not required.
- Ability to read and write English; successfully complete the civil service examination for patrol deputy.
- Knowledge of patrol procedures, criminal investigation techniques, criminal identification and records maintenance.
- Ability to cope with a wide variety of situations with tact, discretion, courtesy, and respect for citizens' rights.
- Ability to prepare written reports accurately, comprehensively, and timely; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to speak effectively to individuals and groups.
Nice to Have
- College degree preferred (optional).
- Willingness to engage in Neighborhood Oriented Policing and community outreach.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Salary: $6,845.29 per month.
- Salary is monthly and may be subject to applicable benefits and deductions as per policy.
