About the Role The position involves patrol and public safety work for Clallam County, including on-the-job investigations, enforcement of laws and ordinances, and various duties related to criminal and civil processes. Candidates must complete required examinations and be deemed eligible through the Civil Service process.

What You'll Do

  • Patrol designated areas of the County in a police patrol vehicle and/or on foot to deter and discover crime. Perform on-scene investigations at crime scenes. Aid persons in trouble and render other public services as needed.
  • Patrol areas in a patrol car to enforce traffic and parking ordinances and investigate collisions. Operate a radar unit to confirm speed violations. Check vehicle identifications against stolen vehicle lists and verify violators against arrest warrant lists.
  • Issue citations to violators of state laws and County ordinances. Serve warrants of arrest; arrest persons on misdemeanor and felony charges. Handcuff and search arrested persons and secure their custody. Complete necessary reports concerning alleged crimes, evidence, and witnesses.
  • Serve subpoenas, garnishments, writs of execution, writs of attachment, writs of restitution, orders of sale, and other civil processes. Respond to reports of possible crime and secure the scene. Locate and interview victims, witnesses, and suspects. Gather evidence and arrest suspects; complete incident and arrest reports.
  • Investigate persons suspected of crime; secure evidence for probable cause. Respond to collision scenes; administer emergency first aid and coordinate with other units as needed. Interview principals and witnesses, prepare accident reports, and conduct thorough investigations of reported crimes.
  • Arrange line-ups for identification, gather evidence, and conduct searches. Prepare case files for prosecuting attorneys and present through the chain of command. Receive training in firearms and other weapons and testify in court. May perform specialized duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED. Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident with the ability to read, write, and speak English per RCW 41.14.100.
  • Minimum age 21 at appointment. Must hold or obtain a valid Washington State Driver's license.
  • Must meet Clallam County Civil Service disqualifier requirements.
  • Willingness to submit to and pass a thorough background investigation, including drug screen, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and physical examination.
  • Must meet current physical standards adopted by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission.

Compensation & Benefits

  • This position is represented by a union (AFSCME 1619-D) and is eligible for benefits and overtime under FLSA.
