Deputy Controller

Description
- The Deputy Controller shall have the primary responsibility of performing a variety of general accounting functions along with leading Florida Memorial in accounts payable, cash management, procurement services, and fixed asset reporting. This position reports to the Assistant VP of Finance & Controller and is responsible for applying general principles of accounting, reviewing and analyzing financial information, and preparing financial reports. An ideal candidate is responsive, thoughtful, self-directed, positive, and seeking an invigorating role. Also, must be fully prepared to step into the role of AVP/Controller within 6-8 months after hire.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and review financial transactions and activities for assigned accounts, funds, departments, and units.
- Prepare monthly and annual bank reconciliations and financial reports and statements for assigned areas to ensure compliance with various statutory requirements, generally accepted accounting principles, and established policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of inventory, fixed assets, and other financial data.
- Maintain accounting controls and audit documents.
- Prepare journal entries and maintain and reconcile accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of various special reports as directed.
- Perform and direct the entire process of in-house payroll ensuring the timely and accurate computation and payment of earnings for multiple business units and employers.
- Oversee the timely payment and accuracy of payroll tax liabilities and the filing of payroll tax returns.
- Assist with external/internal audit requests and provide information as requested.
- Participate in special projects, team training, and development.
- Assist in the processing of accounts payable and review proper accounting treatment for all transactions.
- Provide technical accounting support to various departments.
- Assist with the development, review, and updating of accounting policies, procedures, checklists, and related documentation concerning assigned functions and responsibilities.
- The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.

Minimum Requirements:
- The position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with at least 10 or more years direct experience. Master's degree in accounting or finance with 5-7 years is acceptable.
- 5+ years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities with a non-profit or higher education institution with a budget of $40M or above.
- Knowledge of the full accounting cycle including bank reconciliations.
- Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas.
- Ability to perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
- Familiar with Jenzabar technology suite for higher education.
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
