• Forsyth County's Department of Public Health is seeking a licensed general dentist to provide clinical services and education to children and adults at the Cleveland Avenue Dental Center following dental standard of care and the laws of the North Carolina State Dental Board. Experience is needed in diagnosis and treatment planning, restorative care, uncomplicated endodontics, oral surgery, periodontal treatment and fixed and removable prosthodontics. The Dental Center is primarily an NC Medicaid office with some private insurance and self-pay. This position is ideal for a self-directed individual who can work independently and provide services to a diverse population. Collaboration with dental hygienists on the team is essential.

• The clinic operates 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 7:30 am to 11:30 am on Friday.

• Distinguishing Features

Candidates should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Ability to diagnose oral health conditions in adults and children and provide treatment plan.

• Ability to provide dental treatments including preventive services (i.e. scaling, sealants), radiographic services, direct and indirect restoratives (i.e. amalgam, composite, crown and bridge), removable prosthodontics, uncomplicated endodontics, extractions, fixed and removable prosthesis.

• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff.

• Ability to effectively communicate with patients in order to understand their chief complaint and explain treatment options.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively to develop dental treatment plans and manage clinical aspects of the dental center's functions.

• Ability to provide oral hygiene instructions and diet recommendation.

• Ability to review medical history and recognize the need for medical consult with medical doctor.

• Ability to make referrals to specialists for oral health problems in which Dentist cannot resolve.

• Ability to adhere to infection control standards.

• Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA rules and regulations.

• Ability to deliver excellent customer service and be professional with both patients and staff.

• Minimum Education and Experience

• Graduation from an approved school of dentistry, with either a DDS or DMD.

• Must be licensed by the North Carolina Dental Board (NCDB).

• Annual continuing education equivalent to 15 credits per year is required.

• Biannual CPR certification is required.

• Two years of experience in the general practice of dentistry is preferred.

• A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

• Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Duties include diagnosis and treatment of oral health conditions in both adults and children.

• Perform treatment of oral health problems in adults and children.

• Make referrals for oral health problems which Dentist cannot resolve immediately.

• Provide education and orientation to patient or legal guardian on all treatments.

• Indirect supervision of dental assistants and hygienists in accomplishing patient treatment and care.

• Participate in Sealant Projects (4 times a year) at the schools with staff to provide screenings and supervision over services rendered (prophylaxis, fluoride varnish, sealant placement).

• Provide a positive representation of the Department of Public Health at community outreach events.
