We have an opportunity for a Degree Apprentice (Level 6) Civil Engineer to join our Apprentice Programme in our Civil and Structural Engineering team based in Cardiff, starting in 2027.

This exciting opportunity will provide you with hands-on experience and academic qualifications to launch a successful career in Engineering.

Join our Cardiff Buildings team as an Apprentice Civil Engineer. You will support the delivery of civil engineering designs through every stage of a project, from initial concept through to construction, while developing your technical capability through real project experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • You’ll be part of a local team of 17 civil engineers and technicians, working closely with our structural engineering colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary office. This collaborative environment will give you exposure to different disciplines, perspectives and project challenges.

  • Our work includes sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) design and Sustainable Drainage Approval Body (SAB) approvals, which are mandatory for relevant developments in Wales. You will contribute across a wide range of sectors, supporting both private- and public-sector clients.

Day to day you’ll be:

  • Supporting the delivery of civil engineering designs from concept through to construction.

  • Contributing to the Buildings service offering as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

  • Working alongside civil engineers, technicians and structural engineering colleagues.

  • Building your understanding of SuDS design and the SAB approval process in Wales.

  • Earn while you learn. Whichever apprenticeship route you take, your tuition and qualification fees are on us. You will gain a Level 6 BEng Civil Engineering degree in conjunction with our Training Provider(s). This will be discussed further during the recruitment process.

  • For this role, training providers could include;

  • University of South Wales (day release)

About you:

  • You’re adaptable, resilient, collaborative and curious — you stay calm when things change, keep going when challenges come up, enjoy working with others, value different perspectives and like sharing ideas, asking questions and finding better ways to solve problems.

Qualifications: For our Level 6 apprenticeship you will need to achieve a minimum of 112 UCAS points, from one of the following:

  • A level: BBB (excluding General Studies). You must have Mathematics at grade B or above and one other analytical science subject at grade B or above. Analytical science subjects can include Physics, Biology/Human Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Mathematics and Design and Technology.

  • BTEC (Level 3) Extended Diploma : DMM - this must include a Merit or above in Mathematics and Further Mathematics in Construction Units. Accepted courses: Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction and the Built Environment and Mechanical Engineering.

  • Scottish Highers: 4 SQA Higher - A, B, B, B (to include Mathematics, Higher Applications of Mathematics not accepted).

  • Irish Highers: H3, H3, H3, H3, H3, H4 (at least H3 for Mathematics and one other Analytical Science).

  • International Baccalaureate: 32/655. HL5 in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and HL5 in another Science subject, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design Technology, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies.

  • Other equivalent qualifications may be considered.

You must also have:

  • GCSEs: 5 GCSE's (or recognised equivalent) with a grade 5-6 (B) or above in Mathematics and English Language. Functional

Skills

  • Level 2 in English and Mathematics are also accepted.
