About the Role
We are seeking a Database Engineer to join Paga's product development team in Lagos. The role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining scalable database systems to support our cloud-based payments and financial services engine. You will collaborate with software engineers to optimize data models, ensure data integrity, and deliver high-performance data solutions for millions of users. What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and optimize database solutions for scalable financial services applications
- Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers; optimize query performance
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to support development and data modeling
- Ensure data integrity, implement testing for query results, and design robust data architectures
- Document database designs and automate repetitive database engineering tasks to improve productivity What We're Looking For
- A degree in a related discipline
- 1–6 years of database engineering experience
- Excellent SQL programming skills
- Strong knowledge of database performance optimization and tuning
- Working knowledge of database management concepts
- NoSQL knowledge is a plus
- Familiarity with Agile product development
- Ability to write clean, well-documented code and perform thorough testing
- Understanding of data modeling and abstraction in database design
- Experience with tooling automation to simplify repetitive tasks Nice to Have
- PostgreSQL applied knowledge a plus
- MySQL applied knowledge a plus
