Project: Financial Data Governance & Controls | SAP Finance Transformation & AI Enablement

Introduction
-
We are seeking a Data Quality Analyst - SAP who will act as a Data Quality Investigator/Lineage Analyst to support a broader SAP finance transformation and AI-enabled data platform initiative. This role will dig deeply into financial data to understand its quality, lifecycle, and movement across source systems, SAP, reporting tools, and the new platform.
-
The Data Quality Analyst - SAP will trace how data is created, transformed, adjusted, and consumed, investigating where errors or inconsistencies may be introduced along the way. This includes identifying the root causes of data-quality issues, mapping end-to-end data lineage, monitoring for possible data corruption, and examining manual activity such as top-side adjustments.
-
Rather than simply flagging symptoms in downstream reports, this person will work with finance, accounting, data, and source-system owners to determine where an issue originated and help ensure it is corrected at the source. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the weeds, following data across complex systems, and solving problems that affect the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting, analytics, automation, and AI-generated insights
-
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
-
Investigate financial data-quality issues and trace discrepancies back to their underlying root causes
-
Map and document end-to-end data lineage across source systems, SAP FI/CO, SAP S/4HANA, data pipelines, reporting applications, and the new analytics and AI-enabled platform
-
Analyze how data is created, extracted, transformed, adjusted, transferred, and consumed throughout its lifecycle, including key SAP financial data flows
-
Identify where data may become incomplete, duplicated, corrupted, incorrectly mapped, or otherwise altered as it moves between systems
-
Monitor for signs of data corruption or unexpected changes, including manual journal entries, overrides, reclassifications, top-side adjustments, and SAP master-data or transactional-data changes
-
Determine whether an issue originates within a source system, SAP process, transformation rule, interface, integration, manual process, or downstream reporting layer
-
Partner with source-system owners and SAP functional teams to resolve data-quality issues at the point of origin rather than relying on recurring downstream corrections
-
Work with Accounting, FP&A, Finance, Data Engineering, IT, and platform teams to understand data definitions, business rules, SAP configurations, and reporting requirements
-
Reconcile financial data across source systems, SAP, dashboards, automated processes, and legacy reports to identify inconsistencies
-
Analyze recurring data-quality problems to identify patterns, systemic weaknesses, and opportunities for improved controls or automation
-
Validate that SAP data transformations, mappings, and business rules are operating as intended
-
Support the investigation of unexpected KPI results, reporting discrepancies, and unusual data patterns across SAP and downstream reporting environments
-
Document data flows, transformation logic, ownership, dependencies, control points, known issues, and remediation activities, including key SAP touchpoints and integrations
-
Develop and maintain data-lineage diagrams, source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, issue logs, and root-cause analysis documentation
-
Assist with testing and validation of data fixes, platform enhancements, SAP integrations, and migrated reporting workflows
-
Recommend monitoring rules, reconciliation controls, exception reports, and other preventative measures to improve data integrity across SAP and related financial reporting systems
-
Help define repeatable processes for identifying, investigating, escalating, resolving, and documenting data-quality issues
-
Provide clear updates to technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding findings, business impact, remediation status, and outstanding risks
-
Ensure investigative work and supporting documentation are sufficient for financial control, compliance, audit requirements, and SAP governance standards
-
Required Skills & Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field
-
Experience with SAP financial data, SAP tables, SAP reporting structures, or SAP-to-downstream data integrations
-
Experience in data quality, data lineage, data analysis, financial systems analysis, data governance, or a similar investigative role
-
Demonstrated ability to conduct root-cause analysis and trace data issues across multiple systems and transformation layers
-
Experience mapping and documenting data lineage from source systems through integrations, data platforms, and reporting outputs
-
Strong understanding of data lifecycles, including data creation, extraction, transformation, loading, adjustment, reconciliation, and reporting
-
Experience working with financial data, including general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, close processes, financial reporting, or management reporting
-
Familiarity with SAP environments, such as SAP FI/CO, SAP S/4HANA, or related financial data and reporting processes
-
Strong SQL and data-analysis skills, with the ability to query, compare, validate, and reconcile large or complex datasets
-
Advanced Excel skills and experience analyzing data from spreadsheets, extracts, reports, and multiple source systems
-
Ability to understand source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, integrations, interfaces, and data dependencies
-
Experience identifying data anomalies such as missing records, duplicate transactions, incorrect mappings, unexpected adjustments, or inconsistent calculations
-
Familiarity with data visualization or reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud, or similar platforms is a plus
-
Strong analytical and investigative skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
-
Ability to distinguish between a visible downstream symptom and the true upstream cause of a data issue
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex data problems to finance and business stakeholders
-
Ability to manage multiple investigations, document findings clearly, and follow issues through remediation and validation
-
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
-
Prior experience supporting a SAP finance transformation, enterprise data platform, shared services, controllership, or reporting modernization initiative
-
Familiarity with data-governance concepts, including data ownership, data stewardship, business definitions, metadata, and data-quality standards
-
Experience using data-lineage, metadata-management, or data-catalog tools
-
Exposure to financial controls, SOX requirements, audit documentation, or regulated reporting environments
-
Experience investigating top-side adjustments, manual journal entries, data overrides, or other nonstandard financial activity
-
Experience working with ETL/ELT workflows, APIs, interfaces, cloud data platforms, or enterprise data warehouses
-
Familiarity with automated data-quality monitoring, anomaly detection, exception reporting, or AI-assisted data analysis
-
Experience developing source-to-target documentation, data dictionaries, lineage diagrams, control matrices, or root-cause analysis reports
-
Previous experience working in a contractor or project-based role with defined investigation, documentation, and remediation deliverables
-
