Data Engineering & Platform Manager

Grand Rapids, MI | Hybrid with onsite responsibilities

Impact Business Group is seeking a Data Engineering & Platform Manager for a global medical device manufacturer. This hands-on leadership role owns the enterprise Databricks platform, leads the data engineering team, and builds the infrastructure supporting analytics and AI.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the Databricks environment, including Unity Catalog, access controls, cluster management, performance, and costs.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the data engineering team.

• Build reliable data pipelines integrating ERP, CRM, and operational systems into the Databricks Lakehouse.

• Establish data architecture, governance, quality, lineage, and security standards.

• Partner with analytics, AI, and finance leaders to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.

• Monitor platform and pipeline reliability, resolve issues, and maintain engineering standards and documentation.

• Guide platform improvements, integration decisions, and the broader data and AI roadmap.

• Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.

• 7-12 years of data engineering experience, including 3+ years of hands-on enterprise Databricks administration and pipeline development.

• Experience leading and developing technical teams.

• Strong Databricks expertise, including Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Workflows, and Lakehouse architecture.

• Experience with Azure data services, including Data Factory, Data Lake Storage Gen2, Synapse Analytics, and Azure SQL.

• Proficiency in SQL and Python.

• Experience with ERP integration, data governance, dimensional modeling, medallion architecture, and enterprise data security.

• Preferred Qualifications

• Manufacturing, healthcare, or life sciences experience, particularly in regulated or ISO-certified environments.

• PySpark, SAP integration, Microsoft Dynamics/GP, or dbt experience.

• Experience optimizing Databricks performance and Azure costs.

• Relevant Databricks or Azure certification.
