Job title: D7 Pediatric Hematology Oncology - Patient Care Associate- 12 hour/ week NIGHT SHIFT
About the Role The Patient Care Associate (PCA) on D7 General Pediatrics supports RN-directed patient care during night shifts. The role focuses on data collection, personal care, routine assessments, and assisting with discharge transitions, while promoting a clean, safe care environment. PCAs may also provide 1:1 activity companionship when required.
What You'll Do
- Collect pertinent patient data (vital signs, height/weight, intake/output) and report abnormal findings to the RN and care team.
- Participate in care planning and nursing report processes.
- Uphold patient/family rights to participate in decisions about their care; utilize standardized techniques to keep patients and families informed.
- Provide personal care to patients including bathing, oral care, and skin care; assist with eating and hydration, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Incorporate safe patient handling into basic restorative care such as ambulation, range of motion, and use of assistive devices.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment; demonstrate infection control techniques and standard precautions.
- Provide details related to patient progress toward goals and outcomes to the RN; document all care in the patient record.
- Stock and store supplies to promote resource availability; may serve as an activity companion for patients requiring 1:1 observation.
- Perform point-of-care testing (e.g., whole blood glucose) and support transitions within the acute care stay.
- Work under the direction of the Registered Nurse and assist the caregiving team in delivering competent, compassionate care.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent - required.
- Currently enrolled in a college or university RN program.
- Experience as a paramedic or emergency technician - preferred.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology (Medium proficiency).
- Honest, punctual, and adherent to ethical conduct as defined by Albany Medical Center.
- Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees, and others.
- Physical ability to perform job duties (standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing, reaching, handling, grasping, etc.).
Nice to Have
- Experience as a paramedic or emergency technician (preferred).
