Custodian

About the Role Luther College is seeking custodial staff to keep campus spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for students, employees, and guests. Roles are available in academic and residential buildings with first, second, or third shifts, and a shift differential is offered. There are opportunities to advance to Custodial Lead (+$1.50/hour).

What You'll Do

• Maintain cleanliness in all building areas: lobbies, entrances, classrooms, offices, hallways, kitchens, conference rooms, restrooms, and other spaces to uphold appearance and hygiene.
• Perform daily custodial tasks: unlock/lock buildings, turn lights on/off, sweep, mop, vacuum, empty trash, clean glass, dust surfaces, disinfect fixtures, and participate in annual deep cleaning.
• Assist with setup for campus events; snow removal; maintain outside entrances; recycling; restroom and showroom cleaning; and floor care.
• Follow safety procedures; read and follow instructions; mix chemical solutions according to dilution ratios.
• Work with others and, if in a lead role, provide guidance to student workers; collaborate with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.

What We're Looking For

• Education: High School diploma and/or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills.
• Basic computer knowledge and ability to read instructions; ability to mix appropriate chemical dilution ratios.
• Ability to cultivate inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
• Physical ability to walk/stand for extended periods; lift up to 50 pounds; bend, stretch, kneel; and work in varying indoor/outdoor environments.
• Be available for scheduled shifts; overtime may be required; must be able to work in spaces that may be air conditioned or not.

Compensation & Benefits

• Starting wage: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour. Shift differential: +$0.75/hour or +$1.50/hour depending on shift. Opportunities to advance to Custodial Lead with an additional +$1.50/hour.
• Employment type includes full-time and part-time roles on first, second, and third shifts.
• This role may involve snow removal, event setup, recycling, and various cleaning duties as part of campus operations.
• Buildings and grounds are smoke-free; occasional overtime may apply.
