About the Role The City of Dayton is seeking a dedicated Custodian to perform routine custodial care and minor maintenance in public buildings and facilities. The role focuses on maintaining cleanliness, safety, and appearance of buildings and surrounding grounds through a variety of manual labor tasks, indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions. What You'll Do

  • Perform routine custodial care and minor maintenance duties in public buildings and facilities.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and appearance of buildings and surrounding grounds through cleaning and basic upkeep.
  • Work indoors and outdoors, adapting to varying weather conditions and using standard custodial equipment and safe work practices.
  • Use cleaning methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment in accordance with safety guidelines to keep facilities sanitary and well-kept.
  • Assist with minor maintenance tasks and move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed. What We're Looking For
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain as a term and condition of continued employment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding custodial duties, including prolonged standing, bending, lifting, carrying, and moving furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  • Knowledge of standard custodial and janitorial cleaning methods, materials, chemicals, equipment, and safe work practices.
  • Willingness and ability to work indoors and outdoors and to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Background check and drug/nicotine testing requirements; must pass background investigation and drug screen; nicotine screening and tobacco-free policy for new hires (policy does not apply to current City employees).
