About this role
Job title: Crystal Growth Tube Furnace Engineer
About the Role A crystal growth tube furnace incorporating a programmable motion system to rock the complete hot zone for long durations while maintaining temperatures up to 1300C in an oxidizing environment. The heated zone consists of a 50" long mullite tube with resistance type heating elements. The hot zone contains three independent heating elements. The complete hot zone is able to continuously rock at 90 degrees angles and is provided for growing crystal composites. Once the rocking heat cycle is complete, a unique quenching system will drop the crystal composites to a controlled depth in a cooling medium for quick cooling.
What You'll Do
- Operate and monitor a crystal growth tube furnace with programmable rocking motion that rotates the hot zone 90 degrees for long durations.
- Control temperatures up to 1300C in air, leveraging three independent heating elements to achieve precise thermal profiles.
- Utilize the quick quench mechanism to rapidly cool and drop crystal composites to a controlled depth in a cooling medium.
- Review the 50" mullite tube, 4" x 28" usable hot zone, and ensure +/- 1C uniformity in the hot zone under an oxidizing atmosphere.
- Collaborate on process improvements for crystal growth of composites.
What We're Looking For
- Experience with high-temperature furnaces and crystal growth processes.
- Familiarity with rock drive mechanisms and 90 degree rocking operation.
- Understanding of oxidation environments and safe handling at temperatures up to 1300C.
- Attention to uniform hot zone within +/-1C.
Nice to Have
- Experience with mullite tubes and resistance heating elements.
- Prior work in crystal composite growth.
Compensation & Benefits
- Not specified.
