About the Role Join the Somerset/Hunterdon/Warren Vicinage as a Court Services Officer 1 or Trainee in the Civil Division. This role focuses on managing case flow and monitoring outcomes in Civil dockets from docketing through disposition under supervision, with potential reassignment to other counties as operational needs require. The Judiciary supports a hybrid work schedule with up to two remote days.

What You'll Do

  • Manage case flow and monitor outcomes in Civil dockets from docketing through disposition under the direction of the Assistant Civil Division Manager and other supervisory personnel.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure accurate docketing, timely case processing, and quality service; may be reassigned to Somerset, Hunterdon, or Warren counties as needed.
  • Participate in remote work program according to policy requirements, including setup of multi-factor authentication and high-speed home internet access.

What We're Looking For

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree (Court Services Officer 1 requires this; Trainee may be eligible with applicable conditions).
  • For Court Services Officer 1: one year of paraprofessional experience in case management involving gathering, reviewing and verifying case-related information (investigations, monitoring casework flow, interviewing clients, preparing investigative fact-finding reports and/or writing case notes or other case-related correspondence).
  • Education substitutions: one year of paraprofessional/professional experience may substitute for 30 semester hours; an associate degree plus two years of paraprofessional or professional experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Education notes: degrees from outside the United States must be evaluated by a recognized evaluation service.
  • Physical Ability: ability to climb, prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching; ability to frequently lift 30-50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • Driver's License: a valid New Jersey driver's license is required if vehicle operation is necessary to perform duties.
  • Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required; candidate must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Residency: within one year, must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey (with possible exemption upon hardship or employer critical need).
  • Background: newly hired employees must agree to fingerprint-based background checks; data is kept confidential.
  • The ability to work well in a team environment is essential, and there is a potential for reassignment based on operational needs.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in civil court or court services environments.
  • Familiarity with docketing systems and civil division procedures.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: Schedule A $52,593.71 to $86,166.03; Schedule B $52,593.71 to $81,857.73.

  • For newly hired employees, starting salary is normally at the minimum of the range; for promotions, salary adjustments follow state policy.
