About the Role The Atlantic/Cape Vicinage of the New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a bilingual Court Interpreter (English–Spanish) to provide interpretation and translation services for court proceedings, quasi-judicial hearings and other court-related events in person, virtually or via telecommunications. The interpreter will interpret in sight, consecutive and simultaneous modes, adhere to courtroom protocols and ethical standards, and may be involved in the procurement and assignment of interpreters, data entry and staff training. What You'll Do
- Interpret court events in simultaneous, consecutive and sight modes, on-site, telephonically or virtually in accordance with the Code of Conduct and applicable requirements.
- Translate signage and vicinage documents as requested.
- Travel within the multi-county vicinage as required.
- Provide in-person, telephonic or video interpreting for court proceedings, quasi-judicial hearings, complementary dispute resolution events and other court-related events.
- Assist in the procurement and assignment of contract interpreters and related paperwork.
- Collect and enter data in the automated record keeping system.
- Provide training to staff as needed; participate in study and training events to develop and maintain interpreting and translation skills.
- Work with Judiciary staff at all levels; manage time effectively to support multiple assignments.
- Set up and test devices for virtual events; support interpreters and litigants for simultaneous interpreting. What We're Looking For
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Able to interpret in sight, consecutive and simultaneous modes.
- Familiar with courtroom protocols and able to adhere to ethics and Code of Conduct.
- Able to produce translations of signage and documents; deliver accurate, timely interpretations.
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills; able to work with Judiciary staff at all levels.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the vicinage. Compensation & Benefits
- Court Interpreter 1: Schedule A: $74,454.81–$105,725.80; Schedule B: $74,454.81–$100,439.52.
- Court Interpreter 2: Schedule A: $78,922.07–$119,127.65; Schedule B: $78,922.07–$113,171.27.
- Court Interpreter 1 Conditionally Approved/Trainees: Schedule A: $63,353.90–$105,725.80; Schedule B: $63,353.90–$100,439.52.
- For newly hired individuals, starting salary normally at the minimum of the range. For current Judiciary employees, promotion/advancement salary increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.
- The Judiciary offers a hybrid work arrangement with up to 2 days of remote work; remote work requires high-speed home internet and installation of a multifactor authentication app.
