Council Representative

About the Role AFSCME Colorado seeks a Council Representative to engage, grow, and serve local membership across Colorado. The role supports workers in workplace disputes, hearings, and contract negotiations, and is focused on motivating member participation through meetings, political engagement, trainings, and public actions, while helping bring new members into the union. What You'll Do

• In coordination with the Director/Deputy Director and a council/local, assist stewards and work site leaders with strategies for contract negotiations, campaigns, and organizing programs.
• Communicate one-on-one with supporters, leaders, and members to guide activity on behalf of the union.
• May conduct negotiations, prepare CDLE and NLRB filings, handle arbitrations and grievances, and engage in labor-management relations for bargaining units.
• Develop and implement internal organizing programs; plan labor-management relations with bargaining-unit leadership.
• Train stewards, identify volunteer organizers, and support servicing and chartering of new locals.
• Attend local e-board and membership meetings; visit job sites to maintain member rapport and monitor attitudes.
• Conduct research and devise strategies for negotiating agreements, arbitrations, and other servicing activities; plan campaigns to defend locals against decertification attempts.
• May act as Administrator of a local union, as assigned.
• Work in varied settings with driving, travel, extended hours, nights, and weekends; visits to homes, worksites, and remote locations.
• Bilingual skills desirable. What We're Looking For
• High school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of three years of relevant organizing/servicing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of organizing and servicing union members, labor unions and labor relations, and labor-board proceedings/hearings.
• Proficiency with computers/software; ability to plan and coordinate work; build effective relationships; conduct research for negotiations/arbitrations; and develop persuasive written and graphic documents.
• Ability to negotiate collective bargaining agreements and communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to plan workers’ actions, including strikes; bilingual skills desirable. Nice to Have

• Salary: $60,000 – $95,000 USD per year.
• Travel and field responsibilities; valid driver’s license required.
