Cost Manager
We are looking for an experienced Cost Manager to support a manufacturing organization in Charlotte, North Carolina. This Long-term Contract position will partner closely with an established cost accounting group, helping elevate technical capability while providing hands-on leadership across core costing activities. The role will play a key part in reinforcing sound standard costing practices, improving consistency across multiple facilities, and building durable processes that strengthen the team over time.
Responsibilities

Mentor and develop the cost accounting team by providing practical guidance, technical instruction, and day-to-day support in manufacturing cost practices.

Lead the annual standard cost update process across five manufacturing locations, ensuring timely coordination, accuracy, and alignment in costing methods.

Evaluate bills of materials, routing structures, inventory valuation, and production variance results to identify gaps and improve reliability of cost data.

Strengthen costing workflows and internal controls to promote greater consistency, accuracy, and discipline across plant-level and corporate processes.

Partner with team members to deepen their understanding of standard costing principles, inventory analysis, and manufacturing finance best practices.

Support inventory-related activities, including reconciliation reviews, annual inventory processes, and assessment of costing impacts tied to physical counts.

Identify opportunities to refine product costing methods and cost rollup activities to improve transparency and decision-making for the business.

Establish sustainable procedures and documentation that enable knowledge transfer and help the existing team maintain strong performance after the engagement ends.

Demonstrated experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment, including direct involvement with plant operations and inventory valuation.

Strong expertise in standard cost accounting, standard cost rollups, and analysis of manufacturing cost variances.

Hands-on background reviewing bills of materials, routings, and product cost structures in a multi-site manufacturing setting.

Proven ability to coach, train, and develop accounting professionals through practical instruction and team-focused leadership.

Experience supporting annual physical inventory activities, inventory reconciliation, and broader inventory analysis processes.

Track record of improving costing processes, strengthening controls, and creating repeatable procedures that support long-term success.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across accounting teams and manufacturing sites.
