Job title: Cost Accountant
About the Role Cost Accountant role at Danone's City of Industry, CA facility. You will analyze and manage manufacturing costs, ensure accurate cost reporting, and support financial decision-making. The role reports to the Plant Controller.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead.
- Analyze production costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify and explain cost discrepancies.
- Identify and resolve cost-related issues by analyzing data and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Collaborate with the production and supply chain teams to optimize cost efficiency.
- Perform monthly closing activities, including preparation of manufacturing variances and supporting analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
- Lead inventory cycle count and audits, reconcile inventory discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies.
- Provide cost analysis and support for new product development.
- Prepare and present cost reports to management.
- Analyze daily production variances, update system accordingly.
- Prepare daily or weekly reports of variances, provide business insights to plant management.
- Investigate / resolve Accounts Payable related issues.
- Responsible for all inventory transactions at the plant and 3PL.
- Verify daily production postings to ensure proper inventory is reported.
- Analyze all inventory variances, identify root causes and drive improvements.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in cost accounting (required), preferably in a food manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Excel and MS Office.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of GAAP and relevant accounting standards.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JDE).
- Familiarity with principles and practices for operational excellence.
- Analytical thinking, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Integrated Work Systems (IWS) or similar process improvement initiatives.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $67,000 - $96,000 per year. The exact salary depends on experience, internal equity, and market conditions.
