About the Role
The Corrections Deputy is responsible for the receipt, processing, custody, transport and care of offenders in Franklin County Corrections Center, ensuring a safe, secure and sanitary facility while prioritizing the health, welfare, safety and security of offenders, staff and visitors.
What You'll Do
- Receive and process new offenders; search offenders; collect and record personal property; assign housing and maintain offender records.
- Input and update electronic and written files; prepare incident, general, arrest, and statistical reports.
- Ensure custody of offenders in transit to court, hospital or other facilities; coordinate court appearances and update court-related information in the Jail Management System (dispositions, sentencing, release dates).
- Operate electronic security equipment in the control room; observe movements and activities to maintain security and access.
- Conduct formal counts and record count statistics; perform frisk, pat-down, area and cell searches to limit contraband.
- Inspect living and program areas for cleanliness and policy compliance; arrange release of offenders; assist with work release program including verification of employment and logging.
- Draft and submit written reports; provide for basic offender needs (meals, medication pass, basic first aid).
- Implement the Emergency Response Plan for emergent incidents; assist with commissary operations and inventory.
- Enforce facility rules; issue infractions and warnings; respond to inquiries from offenders, staff, and public within scope or refer to appropriate personnel.
- Provide training or work direction to less experienced Corrections Deputies as directed.
- Maintain physical readiness and the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, and feet for semi-skilled tasks; lift up to 50 lbs; recognize color and odor differences related to duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Working knowledge of offender care, custody and control and related law enforcement concepts.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply laws applicable to the assignment.
- Ability to acquire skill in the use and care of firearms and to possess, manipulate and control a firearm in accordance with policy.
- Ability to maintain composure and self-control under stress; respond effectively to abnormal facility conditions.
- Ability to physically handle and control resisting offenders.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, offenders, and the public.
- Capable of performing semi-skilled movements (data entry) and other routine tasks; physical demands include sedentary to light work with lifting up to 50 lbs.
