About the Role
The Corrections Deputy performs custody, transport and care of offenders within the Franklin County Corrections Center. This role emphasizes safety, security, and sanitary operations, while ensuring fair treatment of offenders and adherence to policies and procedures. The position supports court appearances, daily operations, and emergency response in a correctional facility.
What You'll Do
- Receive and process new offenders, conduct searches, manage personal property, and assign housing.
- Input and update electronic and written files, and complete incident, general, arrest, and statistical reports.
- Maintain custody of offenders in transit to court, hospitals, and other facilities; coordinate court appearances and update court-related data in the Jail Management System.
- Operate electronic security equipment (touch screens, doors, cameras) in a control room; monitor offender and visitor movement and activities.
- Conduct formal head, in-place, and picture card counts; record count statistics; perform searches to limit contraband.
- Inspect living and program areas for cleanliness and policy compliance; arrange for release and assist with the work release program (employment verification, logging in/out, fees).
- Draft and submit written reports on events/incidents; follow established policies.
- Provide basic needs to offenders (meals, medication pass, first aid) and implement the Emergency Response Plan.
- Assist with the commissary program (collect forms, distribute orders, conduct inventory).
- Enforce facility rules; write infractions and issue warnings; respond to inquiries from offenders, staff and the public within scope.
- Provide training or work direction to less experienced Deputies as directed.
- Maintain readiness to respond to abnormal facility conditions and coordinate body movements (eye/hand/foot coordination) as required.
- Additional duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Working knowledge of modern offender care, custody and control and related law enforcement concepts.
- Ability to read, interpret and apply laws applicable to the assignment; ability to acquire firearms skills and comply with FCCC policy.
- Ability to physically handle and control resisting offenders; maintain composure under adverse conditions.
- Ability to stay ready to respond to abnormal facility conditions and emergencies.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, probation officers, and stakeholders.
- Physical capabilities including the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; lift up to 50 lbs; and coordinate movement of eyes, hands, and limbs.
