Job title: Corporate Principal Metallurgy Engineer
About the Role The Corporate Principal Metallurgy Engineer is responsible for creating and implementing a strategic vision for the metallurgical discipline across PCC. This role drives quality improvements by strengthening metallurgical practices across all sites, collaborating with Divisional Quality Leaders and SME teams, and using data to prioritize improvement efforts based on risk to customers.
What You'll Do
- Establish minimum standards, pathways, and processes for effective metallurgical succession planning and talent development; partner with HR and business leaders to ensure each business has a succession plan for metallurgical leadership and a pipeline of metallurgical talent.
- Coordinate metallurgical SMEs and metallurgical laboratory capabilities across the business to deploy resources to address the most challenging metallurgical issues; build strong third-party partnerships with institutions to access metallurgical expertise while protecting PCC IP and trade secrets.
- Identify multi-business opportunities to deliver improved products and EBIT gains through value to the customer (eliminate quality issues, enhance product capabilities, or meet sustainability objectives); coordinate across business units to leverage development funding.
- Participate in the creation and implementation of PCC’s strategic roadmap; provide metallurgical input to business goals.
- Quality: coordinate with the quality team to provide metallurgical input on significant quality issues; establish consistent metallurgical standards for root cause investigations and corrective actions; develop data-driven improvement strategies to reduce variation and lower product risk; coordinate these strategies with Divisional Quality Leaders.
- Regulatory Compliance: stay informed about relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to metallurgical engineering and ensure compliance across PCC’s businesses, cascading requirements as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience.
- Strong ability to lead across multiple sites/business units, develop talent pipelines, and manage cross-functional projects.
- Demonstrated experience with strategic roadmaps, quality systems, data-driven process improvement, and IP/trade secret protection.
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner with HR, quality teams, and external institutions.
