SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coordinator of Meaningful Work will play a central role in providing our students with a transformational educational experience. The purpose of the Meaningful Work Initiative is to develop, promote, and foster opportunities to connect an authentic working experience on or off campus for students, and to provide support and resources for faculty and staff to enhance experiential learning experiences. The Coordinator will create experiences that lead Schreiner graduates to have the skills, knowledge, habits of mind, and dispositions to be successful in a diverse workforce.

This position will assist the University in conceptualizing, developing, implementing, recruiting, and assessing the Meaningful Work Initiative. Working closely with student employment supervisors, academic program leaders, and employer partners, the Coordinator will provide support for students in the student employment program, off campus work programs, professional internships within course majors, and the Community Internship Program (CIP). The Coordinator will also collaborate directly with the Director of Career Services on developing and implementing career readiness projects and programming.

The Coordinator will assist in the development and implementation of pre-professional advising programs, with the support of the Director of Career Services and the Dean of Academic Excellence. The position will include collaborating with other universities and institutions to develop pipeline programs, as well as travel to national conferences and summits. This includes the development and coordination of meaningful work opportunities and Living-Learning Communities that provide intentional environments for students to connect their academic, professional, and personal development.

The position may require teaching an IDST course or others as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and implement programming aligning with the vision and goals of the Schreiner University Strategic Plan.

  • Support and enhance the University’s current meaningful work efforts: to lead, develop, and deliver student employment opportunities, career development and employment services in support of students’ educational, occupational, and personal growth.

  • Assist with annual career readiness audits of juniors and seniors and ensure graduates are ready to enter the workforce having completed a number of key performance indicators.

  • Develop and implement resume and cover letter workshops.

  • Oversee the Meaningful Work Certificate requirements

  • Manage and develop Meaningful Work Canvas course/module.

  • Oversee the Student Employment Program: conduct budget and position audits to determine student employment positions, provide supervisor training, create reports (analysis, assessments, etc.), organize student employment recognition each semester.

  • Coordinate placement of students in federal and university work-study positions, including soliciting requests from supervisors, providing student employment information, paperwork and authorization to students, orienting students to working for success (customer service, confidentiality, professional conduct, etc.).

  • Work with Human Resources and/or Financial Services as necessary to facilitate hiring, time approval, and allocation monitoring for student workers.

  • Collaborate with individual academic departments to establish a common rubric for evaluation of off-campus work experience (i.e., internships/community based programs).

  • Serve as a liaison for off-campus work experience by building partnerships and experiential opportunities locally, state-wide, nationally, and internationally for students.

  • Collaborate with other departments throughout campus to effectively market experiential learning through outreach programming. Promote the accessibility of experiential learning postings as well as experiential learning job search strategies.

  • Conduct site visits to include campus, local, and regional employers to maintain relations as well as further expand experiential learning opportunities, promoting out-of-the-classroom experience and learning activity related to students’ academic studies and career direction.

  • In coordination with supervisors, participate in area business, not-for-profit associations, and chamber of commerce activities with emphasis on relation development.

  • Distribute information on internships, summer jobs, and local part-time jobs

  • Participate in staff activities/meetings and professional development activities including involvement in state, regional and national associations.

  • Coordinate various events and activities related to experiential opportunities (i.e. All Majors Career Fair, Networking Dinner, Schreiner Fair, Graduate School Fair, and the like) in coordination with the Director of Career Services.

  • Assist with the collection of data related to program goals and outcomes through student/staff evaluations, as well as retention and academic performance information, create annual reports of assessment results to share with internal and external audiences.

  • Assists in the development of a budget, supervises expenditures, and maintains fiscal responsibility for Meaningful Work.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a shared vision for the Schreiner Experience (Purposeful Lives, Meaningful Work, Changing Global Society) team.

  • Stay abreast of national best practices, assist in identifying and informing staff/faculty/administration on national, regional, and local educational issues and ensure compliance with federal regulations and applicable labor laws relative to student employment and experiential learning.

  • Serve on campus committees and groups as requested.

  • Maintains an online recruitment system and works closely across departments to maintain/update Meaningful Work website.

  • Establish office policies and procedures, prepare regular reports, and collect data relevant to Meaningful Work.

  • Advise students on a pre-professional pathway relating to education and work experience, including developing relevant experiences, internships, and professional relationships/networking as well as supporting the application process, including review of application materials, developing resumes and cover letters, test prep, etc.

  • Teach IDST 1301 in the fall, participate in training and ongoing workshops. May be assigned a section specific to a learning community.

  • Coordinate the Living and Learning and Learning Communities. Develop and implement new programming to enhance retention of students.

  • Other reasonable and work-related duties as assigned by the Director of Career Success.

  • EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Master’s degree required.

  • Relevant higher education experience 2-3 years preferred.

  • Experience working directly with students 1-1, in group settings, as well as working with faculty inside the classroom in a university setting required.

  • Some teaching experience preferred.

  • Experience developing, promoting, and managing experiential learning for students in a college environment.

  • Some experience working with living and learning / learning communities preferred.

  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, related insurance, and good driving record.

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Proven success in developing partnerships.

  • Exceptional organizational skills.

  • Willing and able to take initiative.

  • Ability to facilitate multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.

  • Knowledge in use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Ability to quickly learn other university specific software programs.

  • Familiarity with learning management systems, case management systems, and other higher education specific platforms.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and community members to promote the services of the Schreiner Experience team.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

  • A broad understanding of and experience in experiential learning.

  • Experience with federal and state regulations pertaining to labor laws.

  • Demonstrated awareness of transition issues of students entering and exiting higher education.

  • Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal communication skills, presentation skills and writing skills.

  • Ability to work independently and creatively to build new program elements.

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
