Role Purpose
The Controls Technician is responsible for supporting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving electrical and control systems. This role supports manufacturing equipment, plant systems, and automation infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The position requires strong hands-on technical skills, the ability to read and develop electrical diagrams and drawings, working knowledge of data acquisition systems, safe work practices around electrical equipment, and the ability to perform soldering and electrical assembly tasks. PCB design experience is a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and maintain electrical, electronic, and control systems supporting manufacturing and plant operations.
- Read, interpret, create, and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and related technical drawings.
- Diagnose electrical and automation issues involving sensors, relays, motors, drives, control panels, power distribution, and associated field devices.
- Support equipment startup, commissioning, checkout, and process implementation activities.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, calibrations, and electrical system verification activities.
- Build, wire, modify, and repair electrical assemblies, control panels, and related equipment.
- Perform soldering of wires, connectors, and electronic components for repair, prototype, and production support work.
- Assist with control system upgrades, equipment improvements, and automation projects to improve uptime, reliability, and process capability.
- Support root cause analysis and downtime reduction efforts by identifying issues and recommending corrective actions.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and other cross-functional teams to resolve equipment and process issues.
- Follow all applicable EHS, LOTO, electrical safety, ISO, and site-specific procedures and standards.
- Support technical documentation development, including SOPs, schematics, and work instructions.
- PCB design support is desirable, but not required.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal travel expected.
- Occasional travel may be required for training, equipment support, vendor visits, or other business needs.
Hours of Work:
- Normal working hours are M–F, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, on site at one of two Corning Locations in Fairport, NY or Rochester, NY.
- Support for off-shift troubleshooting, equipment startup, installations, or urgent plant needs may be required on occasion.
Experiences/Education – Required:

Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, Electronics, or a related technical field, or 3+ yrs of equivalent hands-on experience.

Experience troubleshooting electrical, automation, or manufacturing equipment in an industrial, plant, laboratory, or technical environment.

Strong circuit troubleshooting skills using multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, and logic analyzers

Ability to create, revise, or redline electrical diagrams and documentation.

Understanding of safe work practices for electrical equipment, including lockout/tagout and general electrical safety principles.
Experiences/Education – Desired:
- Experience working in cleanroom environment
- Working knowledge of data acquisition systems, human-machine interfacing, and industrial control systems.
- Experience with soldering electrical or electronic components.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

The range for this position is $59,709.00 - $82,100.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
