Job title: Controls Engineer
About the Role The Controls Engineer will join the Warren, MI plant to support the maintenance team by troubleshooting equipment issues, including PLC ladder logic and data handling in ControlLogix processors. They will maintain PLC documentation and archive programs and machine controls drawings, and work to improve uptime and plant reliability as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
What You'll Do
- Troubleshoot equipment issues including PLC ladder logic and data handling in ControlLogix processors.
- Maintain PLC documentation and archive PLC programs and machine controls drawings in electronic and/or paper formats.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and improve automated equipment and its I/O, instruments, sensors, relays, servo drives, and other components; support maintenance personnel in pneumatic circuits.
- Support various I/O devices connected to PLCs (HMI, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids, servo drives, etc.).
- Schedule and complete backups of electronic machine control and robotic programs and develop/maintain Preventive Maintenance Programs.
- Diagnose problems with hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical/electronic systems.
- Implement and maintain data collection from plant floor processing equipment.
- Identify and implement error-proofing requirements; participate in 8D or similar root-cause based problem solving tasks.
- Contribute to equipment purchase specifications by reviewing and commenting on control drawings prior to build approval.
- Collaborate as part of a cross-functional plant team to determine continuous improvement strategies.
- Identify process impacts due to engineering and launch changes.
- Contribute to root-cause analyses to resolve abnormalities.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Engineering/Electrical field preferred, or equivalent additional experience.
- 5-7 years related Controls Engineering manufacturing experience; automotive experience preferred.
- Allen-Bradley PLCs experience is a must (ControlLogix).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with experience in root-cause analysis.
- Ability to work on the B-Crew shift: Tuesday-Friday 6:30pm-4:30am.
Nice to Have
- Automotive industry experience.
- Experience with data collection systems and PLC documentation management.
- Familiarity with HMI, PLC I/O, servo drives, sensors, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
