About the role
- The Consultant OBGYN provides specialist obstetrics and gynaecology care across the patient pathway.
- This includes leading the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients in outpatient, inpatient, and referral settings.
- The role involves providing senior clinical expertise, supervising and training junior medical staff, and contributing to the clinical standards and governance of the obstetrics and gynaecology service.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients in obstetrics and gynaecology, including complex cases.
- Act as a senior point of referral for junior medical staff.
- Supervise, teach, and support the training and development of senior medical officers, medical officers, and trainees.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and patient-safety activities.
- Coordinate care with other specialties, diagnostics, pharmacy, nursing, allied health, and managed-care/HMO functions while applying evidence-based, cost-effective practice.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and current MDCN registration/licence in line with internal clinical policy.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB) from a recognised institution.
- Completion of national housemanship/internship and NYSC or valid exemption.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-fellowship specialist experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.
