About this role
What you'll do
- Giga Energy is seeking a Construction Safety Specialist to support the safe execution of new construction projects, including new-build power generation, data center, and infrastructure sites. Reporting to the Construction Safety Manager, this role is responsible for implementing site-level safety programs, conducting inspections and audits, delivering safety training, and driving a strong safety culture among Giga Energy employees, contractors, and subcontractors throughout each project's construction phase. This is a hands-on, site-based role that plays a critical part in protecting our workforce and ensuring compliance with OSHA and company safety standards as Giga Energy expands its construction portfolio.
Where you'll work
This role is based on-site at our construction locations. This includes short-term and potential long-term relocation covered by the company. Since this position is based primarily at active new-project construction sites, it requires regular exposure to outdoor conditions, construction equipment, and elevated noise levels.
Responsibilities
-
Implement and enforce the site-specific Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) plan for assigned new construction projects, working under the direction of the Construction Safety Manager.
-
Conduct daily job site safety walks, inspections, and audits to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe behaviors; document findings and drive corrective actions to closure.
-
Lead and participate in pre-task planning, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and toolbox talks with construction crews and subcontractors.
-
Deliver new-hire safety orientations and ongoing training on topics such as fall protection, electrical safety, excavation/trenching, crane and rigging, confined space entry, and hazard communication.
-
Investigate incidents, near-misses, and safety concerns; complete root-cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
-
Maintain accurate safety records, inspection logs, training documentation, and incident reports in company EHS systems.
-
Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with Giga Energy safety requirements, OSHA regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local codes.
-
Support permit-to-work processes, including hot work, confined space, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) permits.
-
Coordinate emergency response planning and participate in site emergency drills.
-
Assist the Construction Safety Manager in preparing safety performance reports, metrics, and trend analysis for project leadership.
-
Promote a positive safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, and recognition of safe work practices.
-
Stop work obligation: intervene and halt any activity posing an imminent risk to personnel, equipment, or the environment.
-
Travel between active new-project construction sites as assigned, with extended on-site presence during peak construction phases.
-
The role requires the physical ability to walk uneven terrain, climb structures and ladders, lift up to 50 lbs, and wear all required PPE for the duration of site visits.
Requirements
-
2+ years of construction safety experience, ideally within energy, industrial, utility-scale, or heavy civil construction.
-
Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 (Construction) standards; OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.
-
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and scopes of work.
-
Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with craft workers, subcontractors, and project management.
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS/incident-reporting software.
-
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, stand/walk for extended periods, climb ladders/stairs, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
-
Willingness to travel to and work on-site at active construction projects, including extended assignments.
-
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Bonus points
-
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
-
OSHA 500/510 authorized trainer certification.
-
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or similar credential.
-
First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
-
Experience with power generation, substation, data center, or oil & gas construction projects.
