About this role
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization to achieve more. We foster a culture built on respect, integrity, accountability, and inclusion, with a growth mindset and a commitment to delivering impact across our global operations.
A Microsoft Construction Quality Lead is responsible for governing the quality management system, auditing contractor quality performance, managing non-conformance reports and quality metrics, identifying risks before they affect commissioning or operations, and ensuring data centers are delivered ready to perform, not just ready to complete.
Responsibilities
- Drive construction quality from day one by ensuring facilities are built in accordance with design requirements, specifications, and Microsoft quality standards.
- Promote a right-first-time culture to reduce rework, delays, and operational risks.
- Audit contractor quality programs by verifying General Contractors are executing their Quality Management System (QMS) and conducting routine quality audits, inspections, and field observations.
- Validate contractor compliance with Division 01 requirements, quality plans, inspection processes, and documentation requirements.
- Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), ensure corrective actions are developed, implemented, and verified, and escalate unresolved quality issues to project leadership.
- Trend recurring quality problems and drive systemic corrective actions.
- Own the quality management system by establishing and maintaining project quality plans, reviewing and aligning contractor quality plans before mobilization, and standardizing quality processes across projects and campuses.
- Govern Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), define hold points and quality gates, and specify documentation requirements; ensure Installer Verification Checklists (IVCs) and readiness requirements are met before commissioning milestones.
- Administer digital quality platforms (Nexus/ACMS), monitor issue closure timelines and SLA performance, and produce dashboards and quality metrics for leadership visibility.
- Perform field quality assurance through inspections and observations, monitor workmanship trends, verify contractors follow approved procedures and specifications, and identify risks early that could impact commissioning, IST, or turnover.
- Support energization and commissioning readiness reviews; ensure documentation, inspections, punch lists, and quality issues are closed prior to turnover; partner with Commissioning Managers and Operations to improve startup outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing trends across campuses and metros, capturing lessons learned, and recommending process improvements to enhance quality performance and reduce defect recurrence.
- Hold contractors accountable for QA/QC responsibilities, monitor closure performance and response times, and reinforce that workmanship quality remains the contractor’s responsibility while Microsoft Quality provides oversight and assurance.
