MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Develop and prepare construction methodologies, execution strategies, and work procedures for project activities.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, project schedules, and site conditions to determine safe and efficient construction methods.
- Develop detailed method statements, work packs, construction sequences, and execution plans for assigned construction activities.
- Evaluate constructability of engineering designs and identify potential construction constraints, risks, and interface issues.
- Provide technical support to construction teams during project execution and resolve methodology-related site issues.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Construction, Planning, QA/QC, HSE, Procurement, Materials, and Commissioning teams to ensure construction methods are properly integrated with project requirements.
- Develop construction sequences and work methodologies that optimize productivity, resource utilization, safety, quality, and schedule performance.
- Review proposed construction methods submitted by contractors and provide technical comments and recommendations.
- Ensure construction methodologies comply with approved engineering designs, project specifications, applicable codes, standards, and company procedures.
- Develop lifting, installation, erection, temporary works, access, handling, and logistics methodologies where applicable.
- Assess requirements for construction equipment, tools, temporary facilities, manpower, materials, and specialist services.
- Identify potential construction risks and develop appropriate mitigation and contingency measures.
- Participate in constructability reviews, HAZID/HAZOP sessions, risk assessments, design reviews, and construction readiness assessments.
- Provide input into project planning and scheduling by establishing logical construction sequences, activity durations, and required work fronts.
- Review construction work packs to ensure they contain the necessary drawings, procedures, permits, inspection requirements, and technical information.
- Coordinate construction interfaces between different disciplines and ensure work sequences minimize clashes and rework.
- Monitor field execution to verify that approved construction methodologies are being followed and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Investigate deviations from approved methods and recommend corrective actions or revised methodologies where required.
- Support the preparation of technical queries, Requests for Information (RFIs), field change requests, and engineering clarifications.
- Ensure construction methods adequately address quality control, inspection, testing, environmental, and HSE requirements.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings, contractor coordination meetings, toolbox discussions, and technical reviews.
- Maintain controlled records of method statements, procedures, technical calculations, revisions, approvals, and lessons learned.
- Support continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and developing more effective construction methodologies for future projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Construction Manager, Engineering Manager, or Project Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 5–8 years of relevant construction engineering or methods engineering experience, preferably in oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, marine, or major infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience developing construction methodologies, method statements, work packs, and execution plans.
- Strong understanding of construction engineering principles, sequencing, temporary works, installation methods, and constructability.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, construction schedules, and contractor proposals.
- Ability to develop practical and safe construction solutions for complex site activities.
- Knowledge of construction planning, resource estimation, productivity, and work-front management.
- Familiarity with relevant ASME, API, ASTM, ACI, AWS, ISO, and project-specific standards as applicable.
- Strong knowledge of HSE requirements, risk assessment, PTW, lifting operations, SIMOPS, and safe construction practices.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
- Strong analytical, technical writing, problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and relevant engineering/project management software.
- Professional engineering certification or membership of a recognized engineering body is an advantage.
