Job title: Construction Manager
About the Role Join The Planet Group as a Construction Manager in Marshalltown, IA to lead on-site execution of large-scale construction projects for a 12-month engagement. You will oversee safety, quality, schedule, and coordination with contractors and stakeholders to ensure compliant, cost-effective project delivery.
What You'll Do
- Provide on-site management for large-scale construction projects, including safety, quality, startup testing, performance testing, and environmental compliance testing.
- Track project progress against the schedule; report status to management and customers; implement processes in a timely, safe, cost-effective, and environmentally conscious manner.
- Manage field personnel and provide oversight to contractors and subcontractors; identify construction specification errors and ensure compliance with contract specs and applicable codes.
- Enforce safety policies and promote a safety culture; investigate accidents with the safety department and report findings to management.
- Administer safety programs, perform safety assessments, and monitor QA/QC processes to assure construction quality.
- Monitor performance metrics (cost, schedule, safety, quality) and use data to drive process improvements.
- Communicate project progress to stakeholders across Safety, Production, Risk, Schedule, Finance, and Quality; escalate issues to management as needed.
- Coordinate with external contractors, equipment manufacturers, permitting teams, and design specs; develop project schedules and cost estimates.
- Interface with local government, customers, and community relations; supervise daily activities of staff and contractors.
- Understand and enforce rules set by regulatory bodies (DOT, OSHA, DNR) and ensure compliance.
- Develop project Punch List and ensure completion; validate milestones/quantities; assist in resolution of field problems.
- Ensure QC; monitor installation QC process.
What We're Looking For
- 8 years of professional experience in construction-related roles (e.g., management, project controls, QA/QC); 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated project management skills and experience managing construction projects; ability to read maps, plans/profiles, drawings; strong financial skills (budgeting, interpreting financial reports, evaluations).
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety rules and applicable building codes; knowledge of construction standards, work methods, equipment, maintenance practices, and materials.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication; proficiency with computer software (email, word processing, spreadsheets, project management).
- Experience working with labor union management preferred.
- On-site supervision capability of professional, non-exempt and bargaining unit employees, and contractors/subcontractors.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: 70-75 USD per hour
- Contract length: 12 months
- Schedule: 40 hours per week
