About the Role Amazon is seeking a Construction Manager to lead project and construction management for industrial development including new builds, retrofits, expansion, and program initiatives from site selection through contract execution. The role covers construction of Fulfillment Centers, Sortation Centers, Delivery Stations, Quick Commerce stores, and auxiliary facilities, as well as renovations and tenant improvements, and includes implementing the facility network infrastructure. The role will be based in Cape Town with 40-60% travel within AMET as needed. What You'll Do
- Manage project delivery for new construction and renovations of Fulfillment Centers across the AMET region, including capacity improvements in existing facilities.
- Advise on the impact of changes in schedule, costs, and permitting; support scope reviews with internal technical teams and operational customers.
- Supervise multiple projects simultaneously, from small renovations to large facilities (including $20M+ projects).
- Work independently in the assigned regional area with minimal direction; represent Amazon with Developers and General Contractors; coordinate with internal teams and stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to define design requirements, equipment, and services for capacity expansion and remodels.
- Negotiate contracts and contract changes with developers and GCs; present documentation for approval as required.
- Provide site management, coordination, planning, and coordination of subcontractors; manage turnover documentation.
- Assess project performance using KPIs for safety, quality, cost, schedule, and sustainability.
- Review designs for conformance to building specifications; identify value engineering and design enhancement opportunities.
- Review and analyze cost/time change requests from external project teams; ensure timely, cost-sensitive incorporation when approved.
- Lead or assist in negotiations with regulatory bodies and authorities having jurisdiction as required.
- Maintain clear, cross-team communication for all project delivery aspects. What We're Looking For
- Experience managing construction projects (new builds, retrofits, expansions) for large-scale facilities in the AMET region or similar environments.
- Ability to supervise multiple projects concurrently; strong budgeting, scheduling, and contractor bid review experience.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with internal customers and external stakeholders (consultants, contractors) to deliver projects efficiently.
- Strong negotiation, contract management, and change control capabilities; experience interfacing with Developers and General Contractors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work across diverse teams and cultures.
- Willingness to travel 40-60% domestically or to other AMET countries. Nice to Have
