Job title: Conseiller SSE

About the Role

The SSE Advisor will be deployed at one of our sites in Canada. The incumbent will provide support to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with SSE standards, working both in the field on the construction site and in the site office to document and verify conformity.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor and ensure SSE requirements on the construction site according to corporate standards, client requirements and government regulations.
  • Support the site director in SSE management and the implementation of safety instructions for workers and partners.
  • Act as the point of contact with the client's SSE organization and provincial regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly SSE statistical reports.
  • Assist with the implementation and updating of the SSE plan.
  • Identify risks and define control measures (through safe work procedures, risk analyses, etc.).
  • Regularly perform and document safety checks and SSE inspections.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and coordinate the health and safety committee.
  • Investigate and document accidents and incidents; conduct root-cause analyses for SSE-related issues.
  • Coordinate all SSE aspects related to site activities; provide basic and site-specific SSE training; coordinate required SSE training programs at the site.
  • Manage first aid, first responders and fire protection programs; propose immediate corrective actions and follow up to verify effectiveness.
  • Maintain certifications (OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and COR) on site; support internal audits on site and at company facilities; coordinate external audits.
  • Coordinate with provincial worker safety organizations; work with the SSE advisor to update the SSE management system.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum of three (3) years of SSE management experience on construction sites or in heavy industry.
  • University degree in health and safety or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Canadian construction safety legislation.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) at all levels of the organization.
  • Recognized auditing and training skills in health, safety and environment.
  • Proven leadership in a team-based environment aimed at a common goal.
  • Excellent problem-solving, sound judgment, initiative and creativity.
  • Willingness to travel and flexibility with work schedule.
  • Day shift on site; Shawinigan hydroelectric plant; on-site housing provided by ANDRITZ.

Nice to Have

  • Experience on hydroelectric plant construction sites – asset.
