About the Role Syracuse University's Information Technology Services (ITS) seeks a Computer Consultant I to provide IT support across university departments and divisions, including desktop, laptop, mobile device, printer, and application support. The role also helps assess and recommend technology procurement and collaborates on IT projects with campus colleagues.
What You'll Do
- Use computing concepts, documented procedures, and knowledge of SU’s systems to address a wide variety of IT support requests, including hardware/software break/fix and installation.
- Effectively prioritize incoming tickets, coordinate with users, and provide cross-unit support as requested by supervisor.
- Manage hardware inventory for assigned area, plan upgrade lifecycle, and replace aging equipment as necessary.
- Maintain accurate incident logs in approved ticketing system; write technical and procedural documents for inclusion in knowledge base.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with peers across the University IT community.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus 1-3 years relevant experience in information technologies/computer science.
- Specialized knowledge of networking, IT hardware, software and OS interactions; printer and printing capabilities; cell technologies as they pertain to support client devices; and mobile computing platforms.
- Familiarity with commonly used AI tools and platforms and AI-enhanced support and automation tools.
- Ability to use documented procedures and SU systems to resolve issues and document steps; strong written and verbal communication; ability to work collaboratively.
Nice to Have
- Experience writing technical and procedural documents; knowledge-base authoring.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $23.16 - $25.00 per hour.
- On-campus position with in-person presence required; remote work arrangements limited.
- Full-time, benefits eligible as per university policy.
