About the Role

Join the Wikimedia Foundation's Social Team as a Community Management Associate, focusing on engaging and growing online communities, developing tone-of-voice guidelines, and shaping a Gen Z-focused social presence for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Foundation. This full-time, hands-on role sits within the External Communications department and is designed for someone energized by social media trends, experimentation, and storytelling from a global volunteer base.

What You'll Do

  • Help develop and document a community management playbook for Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation.
  • Experiment with and evolve the brand’s social tone of voice to resonate globally, in partnership with broader Communications teams.
  • Proactively identify engagement opportunities to connect with new or underrepresented audiences.
  • Surface and amplify community stories, milestones, and impact moments across social channels.
  • Stay informed about platform innovations and emerging trends; recommend and test tools for social listening and scalability.
  • Assist with tracking engagement, sentiment, and emerging discussions; contribute to data-informed growth experiments.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in community management across social media platforms.
  • Deep understanding of platform dynamics and ability to craft effective messaging on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
  • Demonstrated ability to authentically engage online communities and manage multiple accounts.
  • Experience using social listening tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; experience developing a unique brand voice.
  • Editorial judgement to escalate or disengage appropriately.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity across regions and languages.
  • Comfort working with distributed, remote teams across time zones.
