Job title: Communications Translator (Italian) - Remote
About the Role The Wikimedia Foundation's Communications Translators group runs a pilot to support fast translation of our communications materials from English into Italian. Translators will work on a rotating basis within a language team (3–6 translators per language) and select projects based on availability. Projects are fully remote, require using your own computer and internet, and compensation is project-based.
What You'll Do
- Translate organization materials from English into Italian
- Review the translation work of others in your language for quality
- Provide translations of common Wikimedia terms
- Participate in project assignments and coordinate with the language group
- Ensure translations meet set timelines and quality standards
What We're Looking For
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in Italian (target language)
- Experience communicating within the Wikimedia movement
- Ability to work remotely using your own computer and internet
Nice to Have
- Experience with Translate extension in use on Meta-Wiki and other multilingual wikis
- Experience with WordPress or other content management systems
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation is project-based, paid per page of English translation text
- Each page typically takes around two hours to translate
- Fully remote; you will use your own computer and internet access
- Payments are made after translations meet quality and accuracy standards and are in line with applicable legal terms
