About the Role The commissioning specialist is responsible for technical documentation and commissioning of hydroelectric turbine-generator units. Working with the Commissioning manager, the commissioning specialist will review designs, prepare installation manuals, plan tooling requirements, perform verification of instruments, and commission the auxiliaries system and the turbine & generator. What You'll Do
- Preparation and planning phase: Support the project execution team on installation and commissioning matters; provide technical governance and customer relations on technical matters; enhance Field Services team's technical excellence through technical support, training and mentoring on best practices, calculations, etc.; ensure on-time delivery of Field Service documentation; review the designs and propose changes to reduce installation challenges, improve safety and quality as well as reduce time and cost of installation; participate in technical training of site teams; document technical expertise and best practices; contribute to overall quality and excellence in execution of installation & commissioning.
- Execution phase: Ensure work is performed safely; perform instrument functionality verification at site; responsible for the start-up of the various auxiliaries system; perform the commissioning of the turbine & generator; fill the quality record as work progresses; work with the field instrumentation technician to plan and support the pre-commissioning effort; provide support to the site teams regarding the technical issues or challenges; collaborate in resolving complex problems. What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience;
- Be available for work on project sites in USA and overseas;
- Good understanding of electro-mechanical systems;
- Ability to multitask and shift between many different projects and initiatives with tight deadlines;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team work skills and autonomy;
- Strong customer service orientation;
- Able to travel 60%+ for project support;
- Proficiency in DasyLab or any data acquisition software considered an asset;
- Understanding and knowledge of IEEE Std 115 and/or IEEE Std 1248 considered an asset;
- Electrical or mechanical installation experience considered an asset. Nice to Have
