Job title: Commercial HVAC Mechanic
About the Role Join Johnson Controls Federal Systems as a Commercial HVAC Mechanic focused on HVAC Controls and Building Automation Systems (BAS) at the Pentagon. The role supports energy efficiency, resilience, and mission readiness for critical facilities, with growth opportunities in BAS and controls technologies (primarily Metasys and Distech).
What You'll Do
- Perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, point-to-point checkouts, troubleshooting and/or replacement of HVAC controls systems (BAS) and related light commercial equipment (VAVs, VRFs, AHUs), with most work involving Metasys and Distech controls
- Conduct self-study and instructor-led training to improve technical proficiency; complete certifications as required
- Diagnose and repair electronic and digital control malfunctions; test and modify system software when needed
- Assist with sketching and documenting field changes for engineering corrections and drawings; compile project documentation (certificate of completion, training forms, punch lists)
- Provide training and associated manuals to customers on electronic control systems operations; help mechanical staff troubleshoot issues and perform minor mechanical maintenance
- Ensure work performed complies with company, federal regulations, industry standards and customer requirements
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics and operation manuals
- Adhere to Johnson Controls and customer safety standards; provide safety awareness leadership to technicians and subcontractors on work sites
What We're Looking For
- Experience with HVAC mechanical equipment or HVAC Controls (Direct Digital Controls), VAVs, VRFs, or related systems
- Strong PC skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances and/or badges
- Knowledge of electronic or digital controls systems, HVAC controls, facilities management systems, site preparation, and servicing techniques
- Technical knowledge/experience with Johnson Controls Metasys, Tridium Niagara, or Distech DDC systems; programming and/or troubleshooting various brands of HVAC controls
- Experience with BAS communication protocols including BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, N2, P1, Modbus, and/or LON
- Preferred education: technical schooling in HVAC; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or related field
- Limited travel; primarily work at the Pentagon with some initial training travel
Nice to Have
- Experience programming/troubleshooting multiple brands (Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Delta, Distech, Carrier, ALC, Andover)
- Certification or advanced training in Metasys, Niagara, or Distech DDC; familiarity with BAS network topologies
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour to start, with milestone pay increases after completed training
- Company vehicle: Yes, plus gas card
- Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment
- Vacation/sick/holidays: 3 weeks vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, and 10 standard holidays per year
- Travel: Limited; primary duties at the Pentagon
