Job title: Commercial Electronic Security Technician
About the Role The Johnson Controls Federal Systems team is seeking a Commercial Electronic Security Technician to support the Penn State University campus in State College, PA. You will contribute to modernizing critical facilities with commercial ESS deployments for federal customers, including maintenance, service, and some installation work.
What You'll Do
- Conduct maintenance, service, and some installation work on commercial Electronic Security Systems (ESS) such as access controls, intrusion detection, and CCTV.
- Work with systems including SoftwareHouse C-Cure 9000, American Dynamics, and DMP.
- May install security devices and infrastructure per installation plan and applicable codes.
- Assist with security system programming and setup.
- Conduct testing to ensure proper operation after installation or repair.
- Test the system signaling to the receiving center to establish service.
- Coordinate installations with police/fire departments and manage emergency notification records.
- May assist with preparing cost estimates under supervisor guidance.
- Provide End-User training.
- Work safely to prevent injuries and damage, and clean up installation debris.
- Perform other duties as required.
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial/industrial integrated electronic security systems (low voltage intrusion, access control, CCTV, digital recording).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics, and manuals.
- Strong written and oral communication; ability to work cooperatively in a team.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools for mounting and securing equipment.
- Able to work unsupervised and as part of a team.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances and/or badges.
Nice to Have
- Demonstrated proficiency with SoftwareHouse C-Cure 9000.
- Proficiency with commercial and/or industrial cameras.
