About this role

Job title: Commercial Counsel

About the Role

We’re looking for a talented Commercial Counsel to join our Commercial Legal team focused on our US Public Sector customer base. In this role, you will work with internal business partners (like Sales and Trust) and other Legal team members to review and respond to requests from current and prospective US public sector customers (in federal, state and local governments, and education). This is a remote position and will liaise directly with Sales team and customers based in the United States. This role offers an opportunity to support strategic projects and transactions for Atlassian.

What You'll Do

  • Join a small (but mighty!) team building the framework to support our US Public Sector cloud business.

  • Provide pragmatic, business-minded guidance on customer requests and contract-related issues for SLED and Federal Civilian Sales, including statutory and regulatory requests from public sector customers.

  • Analyze and negotiate reseller sales agreements including contract vehicles and flowdown terms.

  • Review customer requests and work with internal business partners to fulfill such requests in accordance with company processes and policies; seek and obtain internal approvals for modifications to standard terms or processes as needed.

  • Draft terms and liaise with Product, Engineering, and Compliance teams to support the continued development of Atlassian Government Cloud.

  • Negotiate contracts from drafting to execution, including contract generation, redlining, exhibit coordination, approval escalation, record management and post-execution support and compliance.

  • What We're Looking For

  • 6+ years of public sector SaaS agreement negotiation experience, particularly with SLED and Federal Civilian customers. Experience supporting government cloud offerings is a plus.

  • FedRAMP compliance + contracting familiarity.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and education procurement processes. Including understanding contract vehicles (GSA, CA SLP, NY OGS, etc.).

  • Experience developing and maintaining efficient processes for a busy commercial legal team.

  • Passion for understanding our customers, products, culture, and business model.

  • Excellent business judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly with a variety of teams.

  • Ability to handle competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

  • Willingness to handle new areas of responsibility.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment on key decisions in the contracts administration function, including recognizing circumstances that require escalation.

  • Strong understanding of software technology and cloud services, associated business models, and technology industry trends, especially within the US public sector.

  • Creative thinking beyond the “legal box” to generate possible solutions and options for the business, clearly articulating risk-based recommendations.

  • Ability to translate the alphabet soup of government procurement to counterparts who have less familiarity.

  • Nice to Have

  • Experience supporting government cloud offerings is a plus.

  • Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary ranges (annual, USD) by geographic pay zone in the United States: Zone A: $198,900 - $259,675; Zone B: $179,010 - $233,708; Zone C: $165,087 - $215,530.

  • Atlassian offers a wide range of perks and benefits designed to support you, your family and to help you engage with your local community (health and wellbeing resources, paid volunteer days, and more).
