About the Role
The University of Michigan's Center for Educational Outreach seeks College Advisers to work with students and families across Michigan as part of the Michigan College Access Corps (MCAC). Advisers will be placed at one of several Michigan high schools, work on-site during regular school hours (40 hours/week), and support students—especially those from low-income, first-generation, and historically underrepresented backgrounds—in navigating admissions and financial aid processes.
What You'll Do

Help students complete and submit admissions and financial aid applications (FAFSA).

Develop a comprehensive college timeline for each student, including admission and financial aid deadlines.

Interpret college correspondence, offers of admission and financial aid.

Provide guidance on course selection, test-taking skills, and basic financial planning.

Organize group events and workshops for students and families; work with community groups to offer events outside school hours.

Establish relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers; collaborate with the program director and evaluation staff to monitor progress and outcomes.

Host regular workshops for families to discuss topics such as financial aid and college planning timelines.

Seek advice from on-site supervisor to support the long-term sustainability of the program.

Attend weekly staff meetings and professional development sessions; live near the assigned school and be on-site during regular hours (40 hours/week).

Participate in mandatory summer training in Ann Arbor mid-July to mid-August; may extend for one additional school year subject to MCAC discretion.

What We're Looking For

A Bachelor's degree.

Ability to pass federal and state background screenings.

Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.

Experience in manipulating or analyzing data.

Creativity and initiative in developing new programs.

Nice to Have

A Bachelor's degree with a graduation date no earlier than May 2024.

Prior experience in program development or management.

Experience working with youth, especially those from diverse backgrounds.

Spanish-speaking ability preferred for some sites.

Compensation & Benefits

This is an AmeriCorps position. Advisers will receive a $30,000 annual stipend (paid bi-weekly) and a $1,200 training stipend (summer training only). An AmeriCorps

- Award upon successful completion of the service term.
- Mandatory summer training in Ann Arbor from mid-July to mid-August.
- After the first year, advisers may have the option to extend for another school year, subject to MCAC program discretion.
