Collections / Accounts Receivable Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Collections / Accounts Receivable Specialist to join a team in Burr Ridge, Illinois in a contract capacity with the potential for a permanent role. This position focuses on supporting invoicing accuracy, accelerating incoming payments, and maintaining strong customer account health within a fast-moving business environment. The role will work closely with internal partners and customers to handle payment applications, lien waiver documentation, account follow-up, and issue resolution tied to construction-related billing activity.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a designated group of customer accounts and lead collection efforts to secure timely payment on outstanding invoices.

• Prepare and submit AIA applications for payment, while monitoring approval status and following through until funding is received.

• Create, review, and distribute conditional and unconditional lien waivers in alignment with customer and project requirements.

• Partner with customers, project teams, and internal departments to address billing questions and remove obstacles affecting payment timing.

• Investigate invoice disputes, short payments, delayed remittances, and other account discrepancies to bring balances to resolution.

• Analyze aging reports and apply targeted collection strategies that improve cash flow and reduce overdue receivables.

• Reconcile account activity by reviewing unapplied cash, deductions, and variances, and ensure account records remain accurate.

• Document collection communications, payment commitments, and account updates, while also assisting with month-end reporting, cash application support, and audit-related requests.

• The salary range for this position is $23 to $25. Benefits available to contract/temporary professionals, include medical, vision, dental, and life and disability insurance. • At least 3 years of experience in accounts receivable, collections, or construction-related billing.

• Hands-on background with AIA billing, including preparing and submitting applications for payment.

• Direct experience administering both conditional and unconditional lien waivers.

• Working knowledge of construction accounting practices and business-to-business collection processes.

• Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, formulas, and data review for account analysis.

• Experience using accounting or receivables systems to manage billing, payment tracking, and account follow-up.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across customers and internal teams.

• Strong organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills in a deadline-driven environment.
