About the Role The Mount Washington Cog Railway is seeking a Cog Railway Brakeman/Brakewoman to ensure a safe, engaging, and memorable experience for thousands of visitors. This role combines safety leadership, public service, and on-train storytelling across scenic trips. What You'll Do
- Assume critical safety responsibilities in accordance with rules and regulations, under the direction of the Engineer and Train Master.
- Operate all train equipment safely and properly.
- Serve as eyes and ears of the Engineer; stay alert under time constraints, operational pressures, and unexpected situations.
- Be the principal public-facing member of the train crew; deliver outstanding customer service on and off the train.
- Provide engaging spoken narration about the railway, Mount Washington, and the surrounding region throughout the trip.
- Remain positive, professional, and courteous at all times.
- Proactively assist guests with boarding, ticketing issues, and any problems or inquiries.
- Assist other departments as needed (ticket scanning, cleaning, parking, maintenance shop, gift shop, kitchen). What We're Looking For
- Must be punctual and reliable.
- Comfortable riding on the exposed front platform of the coach, in all weather.
- Capable of operating all braking and other safety equipment on the coach.
- Calm, confident leadership in stressful situations or with difficult passengers.
- Able to walk and work on rocky, uneven, and very steep terrain in adverse weather.
- Effective public speaker with engaging and confident delivery.
- Available to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Successful completion of a supervised qualification process.
- Able to take and pass a drug screening.
- Training is provided by The Mount Washington Cog Railway.
- This is a seasonal position with a layoff at the end of the season. Compensation & Benefits
