About the Role The Coder codes diseases, procedures, and operations for professional and facility services at Altru Health System. This role includes collaborating with providers to ensure accurate coding, conducting documentation reviews and audits, and monitoring daily activity to support accurate billing. What You'll Do

• Utilize the electronic medical record to code diseases, procedures, and operations using current diagnosis and procedure classifications for both professional and facility services.
• Research appropriate codes using designated resources (coding initiatives, local medical review policies, HCPCS, Coders Desk Reference, etc.) to ensure adherence to coding guidelines.
• Partner with providers to improve coding quality through ongoing feedback on updated coding criteria and guidelines.
• Communicate current procedure and diagnosis coding guidelines to providers; serve as a resource for documentation and coding issues.
• Assist Business Office staff in resolving coding-related denials and take corrective action for claim resubmission.
• Monitor daily activity reports to ensure all encounters are coded and submitted for billing.
• Perform documentation reviews and audits to validate coding; interpret coding data reports and trends with physicians and leaders.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet department/organization needs. What We're Looking For
• Certifications: AHIMA credentials such as Certified Coding Associate (CCA); Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); CCS-P; CPC-H; CPC; RHIT; within 12 months of start date.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS coding guidelines, and documentation improvement.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills to work with providers and stakeholders.
• Ability to research and apply coding guidelines and to monitor coding data and trends. Nice to Have
• May be certified in one of the above credentials (as noted). Compensation & Benefits
• Pay range: $20.75 - $31.12 per hour.
