About the Role Ashworth seeks a CNC and Lathe Programmer/Machinist to join our manufacturing team in Winchester, VA. This role focuses on precision machining, safety, quality, and continuous improvement while producing high-precision components on lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment.

What You'll Do

• Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools including lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, and CNC equipment to perform precision machining operations.
• Machine parts to specifications using cutting tools, fixtures, and measuring instruments.
• Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and precision instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
• Monitor feed and speed to optimize machining performance.
• Inspect and measure completed units; document QC data and maintain production records.
• Read blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD programs; program and operate CNC machines (Level 2 and above); write/edit G-code and M-code; use CAM software for program generation; set up multiple operations with tight tolerances.
• Follow safety rules, use PPE, maintain a clean work environment, and report safety concerns.
• Participate in training and continuous improvement efforts; progress through machinist levels based on demonstrated competency.

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED; 2 years of technical education preferred.
• Previous CNC machine operating experience and strong mechanical aptitude.
• Proficiency in CNC programming languages (G-code and M-code); familiarity with CAM software; understanding of CNC control systems.
• Knowledge of mathematics (arithmetic, algebra, geometry); ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Familiarity with metals and heat-treating processes; knowledge of production processes and quality control.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a manufacturing environment with noise/temperature variations; good visual acuity for inspection; ability to read gauges and use measuring tools.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills; effective written and verbal communication; ability to work independently and as part of a team; commitment to safety.
