Cloud Software Engineer

A Cloud Software Engineer position with Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is available in Annapolis Junction, Maryland. The role requires U.S. citizenship and a TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph.

The successful candidate will design, develop, and enhance software systems across analytics, algorithms, large-scale data processing, real-time systems, and business management tools. You will review, test, and document components to ensure alignment with design requirements, resolve issues, and apply appropriate development methodologies. You will contribute to system design by evaluating hardware/software trade-offs, promoting software reuse, integrating COTS/GOTS solutions, and performing requirement analyses from system-level specifications to individual components. You will derive software design and performance requirements from user needs, debug existing software, and provide recommendations to improve documentation and development process standards. You will design, code, modify, and integrate software to add features, support new environments, and develop data queries for databases or data repositories. You will write or review software and system documentation and may serve as a team lead appropriate to the chosen software development process. You will design or implement complex database interfaces/queries, develop algorithms to meet performance standards, and assist with testing procedures. You will analyze systems, confer with users and engineers, investigate problem areas, and modify software to correct errors or improve performance. You will use scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict outcomes, design timing-constrained algorithms, and oversee one or more software development teams to ensure adherence to process constraints. You will coordinate software system installation in collaboration with system and hardware engineers.

Responsibilities include:

• Designing, developing, and enhancing diverse software systems including analytics, algorithms, large-scale data processing, real-time systems, and business tools.
• Reviewing, testing, and documenting software components to meet design requirements and resolve issues.
• Analyzing hardware/software trade-offs, promoting software reuse, integrating COTS/GOTS, and performing system-level requirement analyses.
• Deriving design and performance requirements from user needs and debugging existing software.
• Recommending improvements to documentation and software development standards.
• Designing, coding, modifying, and integrating software to add features and adapt to new environments.
• Developing data queries and complex database interfaces.
• Writing and reviewing software and system documentation.
• Serving as a team lead as appropriate for the project’s development process.
• Developing or implementing algorithms to meet performance and functional standards.
• Assisting with test procedures and ensuring software quality.
• Coordinating with system and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and understand project limitations and interfaces.
• Coordinating software system installation.

Requirements

• 14 years of experience as a Software Engineer.
• Experience designing and developing automated analytic software, techniques, and algorithms.
• Experience developing and deploying applications in a cloud environment.
• Experience documenting data models, schemas, data element dictionaries, and other technical specifications.
• Knowledge of AWS.
• Proficiency with Python, Java, C++, and Git.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).
• Experience using Jira and Confluence.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline; or 4 years of additional software engineering experience on projects with similar software processes in lieu of a degree.
• Clearance: TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph.
