Cloud Engagement Lead

Description and Requirements

Job Description

Who You’ll Work With

You will serve as a workstream lead for complex cloud programs, partnering closely with:

  • Product owners and business stakeholders
  • Internal and client IT, security, networking, and operations teams
  • Cloud architects, engineers, data teams, and QA
  • Third‑party vendors and partners (e.g., cloud providers, tooling vendors)

What You’ll Do

  • Engagement Leadership & Client Management

  • Own workstream delivery of cloud engagements (migrations, application modernizations, net‑new cloud solutions, platform builds, etc.) from discovery through go‑live and stabilization.

  • Act as the primary point of contact and trusted advisor for client leadership, managing expectations, scope, and communications.

  • Facilitate status updates, steering committee meetings, and decision forums.

  • Build strong, long‑term client relationships that lead to follow‑on opportunities.

  • Program & Project Delivery

  • Guide overall strategy, roadmap, and success metrics for cloud programs, including migration, modernization, and innovation workstreams.

  • Structure and manage workstreams (e.g., infrastructure, applications, data, security, DevOps/platform) to ensure alignment and clear dependencies.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive plans, roadmaps, and backlogs (e.g., migration waves, modernization epics, platform build milestones, cutover plans, runbooks) with clear ownership and timelines.

  • Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risks, issues, and dependencies across teams and vendors.

  • Ensure robust change management, including impact analysis, approvals, and communication.

  • Cloud Migration, Modernization & Solution Delivery

  • Lead assessments of current environments (applications, infrastructure, data, integrations) and define target cloud architectures in partnership with technical leads.

  • Drive strategy and sequencing for:

  • Data center and workload migrations to cloud

  • Application modernization (e.g., refactoring, re‑architecting, containerization, microservices)

  • New cloud‑native solutions and platform capabilities (e.g., landing zones, CI/CD, observability, shared services).

  • Balance risk, cost, and business value across different types of cloud initiatives.

  • Oversee execution of migration waves, modernization sprints, and platform buildouts, ensuring minimal business disruption and clear value delivery.

  • Ensure operational readiness, observability, and support handover are in place prior to go‑live for all cloud solutions.

  • Cloud Governance, Security, and Compliance

  • Partner with security, networking, and compliance teams to ensure all cloud solutions meet organizational and regulatory requirements.

  • Support the establishment and refinement of cloud governance models, landing zones, guardrails, and operational standards that can support multiple types of cloud engagements.

  • Ensure documentation, runbooks, and knowledge transfer are completed for ongoing operations and support.

  • Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead cross‑functional teams of 3–10 people, including consultants, engineers, architects, and client staff, across different types of cloud projects.

  • Set clear goals, roles, and ways of working for each engagement team.

  • Mentor and develop team members in both delivery practices and cloud solution concepts (migration, modernization, and cloud‑native delivery).

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive environment with a strong focus on outcomes and quality.

  • What You’ll Bring

Experience

  • Proven experience as an engagement lead or technical project manager delivering complex cloud initiatives in a consulting or client‑facing environment.

  • Hands‑on leadership of cloud projects, including:

  • Application and infrastructure migrations from on‑prem data centers to AWS, and/or

  • Application modernization and cloud‑native solution delivery on AWS.

  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams of 3‑10 people across multiple workstreams.

  • Demonstrated success managing cloud projects, including discovery, design, implementation, go‑live, and stabilization.

  • Technical & Cloud Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of cloud concepts and services, with emphasis on AWS (e.g., VPC, EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, networking, security, monitoring).

  • Familiarity with common migration and modernization patterns (rehost, replatform, refactor, containerization, microservices, database migration).

  • Understanding of cloud security, networking, DevOps, and compliance considerations in enterprise environments.

  • Ability to engage deeply with architects and engineers, translating technical details into business‑relevant language.

  • Delivery & Methodology

  • Strong grounding in project management disciplines (scope, schedule, budget, risk, dependency, and stakeholder management).

  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, or scaled frameworks) and experience applying them.

  • Proficiency with project and Agile management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar).

  • Certifications (Preferred)

  • Agile / Delivery: PMI‑ACP, Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A‑CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent.

  • Cloud: AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Associate‑level certification (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect – Associate); Azure or GCP certifications a plus.

  • Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent client management skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive consensus.

  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation), including the ability to simplify complex topics.

  • Strong problem‑solving, critical thinking, and decision‑making abilities under time pressure.
