About the Role
Join Mercedes-Benz as a Closure Parts Engineer to lead and participate in closure system and body development and localization for Mercedes-Benz production lines. You will manage the full lifecycle technical management of closure and accessory parts from concept design through mass production, ensuring alignment with vehicle specifications and project milestones. You will collaborate with body structure, overall vehicle development, project leaders and suppliers to deliver on function, packaging and testing targets in China.
What You'll Do
- Lead or participate in closure system and body development and localization projects for Mercedes-Benz production lines.
- Manage full lifecycle technical management of closure and accessory parts from concept design through series design, prototype verification to mass production.
- Define technical solutions according to project premise and design specifications (vehicle, system and component specifications).
- Collaborate with body structure, overall vehicle development, project leader and teams to meet function, packaging and testing requirements during design engineering for China content development.
- Ensure data releases match digital development milestones, and function release and product verification plan releases align with project milestones during launch phase.
- Manage technical reviews with suppliers, provide technical explanations/clarifications, coordinate production planning and pilot plants; maintain design synchronization with headquarter departments.
- Support supplier nomination, track maturity, testing and delivery progress of supplier parts; promote supplier improvements and cost optimization.
- Support component availability and maturity for complete vehicle tests such as winter, summer and durability tests.
- Resolve issues during development and hardware phases.
- Achieve innovation-driven closure system targets for appearance, function, quality, cost and weight.
- Capture lessons learned to optimize products, projects and working methods.
What We're Looking For
- University degree in mechanical or automotive engineering.
- Minimum 5 years’ development experience in Hood/Frunk, Tailgate/Trunklid and body accessories like hinges, locking systems, spindle drives in OEMs or suppliers.
- Familiar with structural principle, design specifications, development process and industry technology trends of automobile closure systems; mastery of performance requirements and selection standards of core components (closure locks, hinges, regulators).
- Ability to develop alternative components/solutions for series projects with lower cost and keep surrounding parts/systems unchanged.
- Strong project management, cross-departmental and supplier communication/coordination skills; team leadership awareness and ability to coordinate internal and external resources under pressure.
- Solid knowledge in mechanical design, structural mechanics and material performance; proficiency in 3D design software such as NX; Smaragd experience advantageous for independent structural design and performance simulation of closure systems.
- Familiar with automotive laws, regulations and standards (C-NCAP, C-IASI, NVH, waterproof and dustproof, etc.); experience in closure system test and verification; able to formulate test plans, analyze data and propose improvements.
- Responsible, rigorous, able to work under pressure with strong innovation and learning mindset; able to adapt to rapid industry development; intercultural competence and communication with various hierarchy levels and JV partners.
- Very good Chinese and English language skills; German language beneficial.
- High commitment to automobiles; self-responsible attitude and initiative.
- Willingness to travel domestically and abroad to handle project topics.
- Strong planning and organizational skills; supplier management.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
