Job title: Clinical Track Assistant Professor or Preclinical Veterinary Medicine
About the Role The Clinical Track Assistant Professor in Preclinical Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University will contribute to teaching, service, and clinical research in the tripartite mission of the College and University. The role focuses on leading preclinical curriculum, clinical instruction, and preparing students for national licensing exams, while engaging in scholarly activities and service to the department.
What You'll Do
- Provide classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction for veterinary students and graduate students.
- Lead the clinical instruction programs and courses in the preclinical curriculum to prepare students for the national veterinary licensing exam.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to develop clinical competencies that prepare veterinary students to pass the Veterinary Educational Assessment Capstone exam.
- Prepare clinical hands-on laboratories and evaluate students on their performance in clinical competencies; meet with students regularly to review their progress; and prepare review sessions as needed.
- Coordinate the Clinical Skills courses in the preclinical curriculum.
- Work with the Director of the Simulation Laboratory to prepare clinical laboratories for all veterinary students.
- Organize small group sessions on clinical cases aligned with basic sciences courses.
- Engage with clinical faculty in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and other veterinarians to strengthen the clinical component of the preclinical curriculum.
- Participate in clinical programs in the clinical phase of the curriculum.
- Demonstrate creative scholarship, collaborative research activities and develop innovative teaching and service programs to enhance the Department and the College.
- Is expected to attend department, college, and university meetings; participate in college and university events; and serve on department, college and university committees.
- Scholarly productivity is expected by attending and participating in seminars, workshops, and conferences that focus on clinical education for veterinary students.
- All other duties and tasks as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- DVM, or equivalent degree, and maintain professional licensure in Alabama.
- Must have at least 3 years of experience in veterinary practice.
- Clinical experience and documented competency in small animal practice.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a team.
- Strong organizational, time management, and planning skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), information systems, and databases.
- Ability to engage in teaching, leadership, and collaborative research.
